No pun intended I guess Pete. Speaking of which, listening to the sheet of snow slowly sliding of the roof of my box is interesting. Looking at -7 here tonight apparently so this could be the next test for the camera.

Thanks Pete I will try it tomorrow Thanks Sue I did follow them but then I had trouble with the Java set up hopefully I will see it tomorrow 😊 Their website is quite old technically - I had java trouble but there's a little button thing to choose "JavaScript" instead...choose that and it should work.

Ah, hopefully it's a software fix. Not had a response from them myself since Friday. Who did you speak to? think they're pretty snowed under given the time of year, and they're a tiny company

If it's a software fix I'm not sure how my camera could be updated without taking it down - they don't make it possible to access remotely unfortunately. Be lovely if they released a proper web interface for it as per zillions of security camera brands.

I've looked at OBS but I don't want to have to keep an application open on a PC all the time - mainly because I'm out a lot. Raspberry pi worked really well in that respect as I ran it headless and just telnetted to it for occasional admin. I'm considering getting an NVR and also going big with the camera next season - hikvision or something like that.

Hi Pete, I believe OBS while less powerful is less CPU hungry and can do all the streaming and recording jobs needed? What made you use that over OBS? I have motion detection recording set up in OBS now so while I am working I have it open all day acting as redundancy - of course, for precisely nothing atm! As I can control settings precisely, testing with clips of the very minimal action I have had (and a few finger tests) it actually works better than the cam motion detection which I don't trust on medium yet and on high it even records light reflecting through the hole from car windows which is really, really annoying. I get dozens of notifications a day when sunny.

Roll on warmer temperatures at the weekend so the birds can get on with their plans. We have very light snow furry just now with a cold wind

Thanks Pete I will try it tomorrow Thanks Sue I did follow them but then I had trouble with the Java set up hopefully I will see it tomorrow 😊 I also had problems with Java Ann but I ticked the box Java script and it works perfectly. Don’t know if this is any help. I don’t have Java on my iPad. Nothing to see at moment Ann, just empty boxes, but means can possibly see visits and/or nest building when it begins. Sue

Well done Pete. Just click the link in Pete’s reply Ann and hit on ‘viewers’. I’ve saved the link for many years as always followed Malcolm’s and Elizabeth’s site. I mailed Malcolm to say thank you for keeping it going. He says he is hoping to keep the cameras on now but sometimes forgets. So good of him. Sue

GF now confirm the lack of audio I'm experiencing is not just my camera... they've tested another one of the same version with the same outcome. Waiting to hear more from them.

My frame rate was pretty low, too (around 5 FPS I think!) Haven't checked it on the new model. There are two rtsp streams though, one better quality than the other - on your version stream0 and stream1 (if it's the same model as my old one).

Interesting. It's feasible for me to send CAT5 and a router to the shed if needed, but on the whole it's been acceptable at 50%+ signal. If it happens again needing power cycle I may consider.
More concerning though - something I have noticed since you mentioned mine might be an older model - the frame rate is definitely not the quoted 20. I'm getting 9.750fps on the stream via VLC atm!

It definitely seems quieter right now compared to this time last year - but it's soooo much colder. If it's any comfort I'm getting a lot of similar flying-up-into-the-roof thing going on at the moment. My BT pair are definitely around, but it feels like they're really biding time! Hopefully just waiting for the right moment to turn up the action.

Great light in that side view box Pete, which is always the most significant perceptual quality thing. However, that date and time look very different and I have noticed a lot of variation online with these cams. Is that via software? Activity looks very promising! My side-view box is from Gardennature.... complete with camera. It's H265, so much higher quality picture. But more bandwidth hungry so not very powerline-friendly. Also cannot for the life of me work out how to record the stream using ffmpeg - if I try the method I know with this camera I get a massive delay between audio and pictures. Gave up last year trying to fix it, since it wasn't being used for nesting. There's no LED lamp in the box, though - that high quality pic is all down to the frosted perspex window in the box roof letting diffused daylight through. I'm very impressed with the picture quality, if nothing else.
