Love to think you are right Ann, really would love to see some action. Trees are starting to bud so spring is trying but weather is so changeable it must be confusing the birds as much as us. Sue

Brilliant! Seems early, or not? Still a bit early Matt, after those initial strands of grass no more has been brought in so nothing has seriously started though the pair are in and around the box every day keeping others at bay, haven't seen as much activity in my other two starling boxes though.

Discovered another little visit from yesterday in the side-view box. Now I think I can tell the male and the female apart, thanks to this one being a definite case of male coming into the box first, hunkering down awaiting the female, then doing a very quick escape as she comes in. I've looked at the markings on the backs of their heads and I think this female is the same one I've seen in the main tree box - she's the one obsessed with pecking the entrance holes!
It does seem as if everything's delayed a bit this year compared to last. This time last year it all went quiet and then material appeared about a week later. This year, they still seem to be doing the visits and I've not noticed much clearly identifiable wriggling going on...although my main tree box camera was out of action for most of February, and I wasn't recording it continuously before that, either (unlike last year).
Here's the little swapsie visit from yesterday afternoon - some faffing about outside before the male comes in around 25s into the clip:

I agree Ann, don’t know why we put ourselves through it at this stage because when/if something happens it will become obvious anyway . Just a keen couple of hopefuls that’s us Ann . Sue

Turns out the BTs have been giving the side-view box similar treatment - especially the entrance hole pecking!
One of a handful of visits from earlier today:
This box does sway a fair bit in the wind - hence the look of the BT gaining its 'sea legs' when standing inside!

Hi Sue It’s tricky, I will be watching again tomorrow, I have to tell myself to go about what I need to do, and when it kicks off I will see it. it’s so additive, if only it would just get warmer, even though temp was better today the day was dull plenty of bird song over the day wonder who will be the first to report nesting has started 🤔

Love the garden Benn and was looking much the same here yesterday. I'm not too far from you in Derbyshire. Good luck with the season ahead.

Hi John
I know Blue Tits can enter through 25mm as I have several mounted in our local moorland woods which have been used by Blue Tits. 28mm is a good compromise which both species can cope with.

Camera is good! Actually rated for -20 anyway.
Having a bit of an ethical dilemma at the minute about whether to remove the 25mm plate to increase chances this season. Still only 3 short visits from BTs - heads popping in but no entries - and it does seem to me like they were struggling. Plenty of GTs about so seems a shame to leave them out as well. What do people think? The plate is an Avonstar one and definitely 25mm but only just.

Some very prolonged visits to the main tree box this morning. I was out most of the morning but have just reviewed the motion detection alerts - there are lots of false alarms due to windy weather with clouds blowing over the sun causing lots of changing light/shadows, but in amongst these are three very lengthy periods of a single BT doing some obsessive and intense pecking of the inside of the entrance hole, and of the box floor. At one point I've convinced myself there were some definite wriggles going on - a bit subtle and definitely not the full-on expansive ones I'd hope for, but still noticeable I'd say (being slightly optimistic). See around 28 secs into this clip:
