Great stuff Pete! Remind me, did you get a nest last year or would this be first successful year? (if it happens - touch wood - but looking really promising!). Yes indeed Matt - I was lucky enough to get a BT nest in the main tree box last year. Also got a Robin nest in a homemade box that I managed to capture some of on a trail cam. No such luck this year with Robins - they've chosen next door's ivy!

She is 100% on a mission Matt, She wouldn't be wasting her energy cleaning that box for nothing!

Fingers crossed Ann, I think things don't really get "going" for another 2 weeks though Normally when the more "serious" building starts

I love this time of year the "will they won't they" seems to go on FOREVER though It does look very promising though Pete!

More poo patrol. She's really stepped this up today, working in bursts of about 5-10 minutes.

Quite a bit of poo clenaing this morning in the side-view box, not sure whether this is the same bird that is roosting/cleaning out the 3-hole concrete box? Here she is resting after a bit of cleaning:

Good morning Early visits to two of the outside of my boxes this morning, still appears no decision made yet. I’d be completely amazed if I had two active boxes, I’ve always believed I only have one pair of blue tits that come to my garden When I went to bird ringing and count last year he told me to x itby five around my close vicinity 😊 I’m aware there are definitely 3 this morning Of course one active box would be wonderful won’t be greedy 🫢 Great tits are back 😊

Nesting wriggle! Lots and lots of activity in the main tree box this morning and early afternoon - furious pecking is I think a sort of combination of spring cleaning and resilience testing! Anyway, I'm delighted with the full-on wriggle - see about 10s into this little clip: Edit: less delighted with the realisation that the audio is out of synch in the video clip. Another problem with this new GF camera

OK so much overdue update on my boxes!! I have just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in Aus, and hadn't had the video on whilst I was away so no real idea what has been going on. I still have 6x boxes despite the fact that I said earlier in this post that I would be removing some. Headlines are that in one of the 3 hole concrete there has evidently been some roosting going on, poo now cleaned up and a small amount of material brought in. These birds are still coming in throughout the day, adding/removing a bit of material occasionally but no serious building yet. This is very much like how last year's nest started (small amount of material for weeks before proper nest building): The sideview box also has evidence of roosting, but much less clearing out. Having said that, it was dirtier a couple of days ago, and I did catch a bird removing some poo early this morning on the live view (not recorded). Not sure if this is same bird as other box? other than that, getting visits to the second 3-hole concrete box, and occasional visits (from bluetits only) to the starling/sparrow box. Not much sign of sparrows or starlings at all yet so far this season. All in all, promising - on the blue tit front at least.

28mm won't hurt, John. I had same issue myself a few years back when I ended up widening a 25mm hole because it seemed like the bluetits couldn't quite get in. I did end up with a nest in that box that year as well!

Thanks Benn, unfortunately another visit this morning where the bird was definitely trying and failing to squeeze through, so erred on side of caution now and have a 28mm plate on the way.

Well the plot thickens as just seen blue tit also checking out box 2, so is it the great tit or the blue tit bringing in material? Sue

SIDE-VIEW BOX ------------------ Three or four more double visits this morning. All of them proper male/female swap-over visits, with some more furious pecking by the female - the floor of this box is starting to look a bit sawdusty as a result!
MAIN TREE BOX ------------------ Hard to tell precisely what's happening in the main tree box at the moment as I'm not recording that camera continuously - just relying on the app + motion alerts. There were definitely some visits though.

Oooo did anyone see the great tit that entered box 2 this morning? that was a nice surprise, wouldn't it be great to have a great tit and blue tit box to view! Bit like Ann, every time I look no-one is home . Do you know if it’s the great tit bring in nesting material? That would be brilliant. Just need blue tit to start in box 1 then . Sue ps just went to the playback for box 2 this morning and found the great tit just before 11:00 on the cameras timer on screen. It did appear to be moving the material around but didn’t actually see it bring any in . pps And, the playback for box 1 shows a pair of blue tits inspecting the box

Congrats Paul! I'm just back from 2 1/2 weeks in Aus myself and also jet lagged, catching up with goings on here and in my boxes. Nesting season is upon us already!!

Visits to boxes this morning they appear to have not quite decided where to reside, to my surprise I looked up at the screen and I presume a blue tit beak was just showing in the hole, Hope I have more interest to camera box even if it’s a chance to see it go inside 🤞🏻☘️

Beautiful frosty morning here sun out I’ve got up feeling hopeful of action today so instead of glaring at the outside of the camera box I’ve set up and the camera is on today in case there is a slim chance of a visit to the box and the female hasn’t quite made her mind up where home is going to be 🫢🤔
