Some more material back in today after what looks like loads more faffing. She's roosting in there tonight. Guess she'll start properly building in due course when the time is right. Where I am now is blazing sunshine 20degs so hard to gauge the local conditions! Grateful my camera app allows me to monitor things though

She took all the material out later in the day yesterday, and it looks like she's spent all of today faffing about with no material being brought back in. She's roosting in there tonight, though, by the looks of things,so wait and see what happens tomorrow I guess! Exactly the same with mine Pete, and also the same happened last year (early start, material in/out for weeks, ultimately did nest!). All due to this bad weather IMO but sounds as if she has chosen.

Seems the weather is going to be unpredictable for a while yet which is miserable as can’t wait for some Spring weather and hopefully some birdie action for many. Looks promising for you Sammi. Sue

Well so far we have had a half hearted wriggle from one bue tit female. She has a bit of feather mite damage (I think) around her eyes which makes her recognizable. The temperature is so up and down though The sparrows are around but don't seem interested in the boxes this year. Early days but still exciting

Great news Pete. Hope things progress nicely. All quiet at ours apart from a pesky wasp in one box keeps getting my hopes up

First material being brought in this morning... .....this is exactly the same date as last year. I'm out of the UK at the moment and just connected to hotel wifi - obviously the first thing I did was check the camera app , and saw the motion alerts with the snapshot pics of the female bringing in moss....

As of tonight, we have a BT roosting in the main tree box. Maybe the manic-pecking female? I'm assuming so. Entered around 6.15pm

Not sure if same bird or not, but a bit more serious on the nesting material in the 3-hole concrete box today: fingers crossed sideview was a different bird but I don't think so, which means she put a lot of effort into cleaning it out for nothing! (maybe). Then again, let's see if the nest in the concrete box sticks.. Lot's of visits over last couple of days from starlings and sparrows in the concrete starling box, good to see - would love a nest in there this year (never had before).

How lovely to see Paul, and such beautiful clear video/pictures. Just been to my daughters for a Mother’s Day lunch and so jealous to see blue tits busily in and out of MY old nest box with building material . They must have entirely filled the box with the amount of visits they made just whilst I was watching . Sue

I interrogated the DVR this morning. The Blue tits seem to have chosen their usual box as they are increasing their daytime visits and the female has begun to clean the floor of the droppings she has built up over Winter during her roosts.
The other box is being used by the male Blue Tit for roosting but I was pleased to find a clip from yesterday morning which looks promising!

I think I posted a link to this Naturetec site last year, but I forgot all about it until this evening.
The guy who operates it is clearly completely addicted to nest box cameras, feeder cameras, etc. etc. and has some serious tech installed. His garden is completely wired up with loads of cameras, and home-built boxes, feeding stations, hedgehog boxes...
This link (see below) is to a live feed of several boxes - and in the description on the feed there are links galore to all his stuff, including a 360-degree panorama tour of his garden. Tonight on the live feed there look to be four boxes with roosters in them, one having two roosting BTs together.
Worth a lengthy browse from time to time..... enjoy!

Action in the side-view box seems to have dwindled to nothing in the last few days. But in the main tree box it's all go - one BT (female I'm assuming) is coming and going for extended periods doing some furious pecking on the floor of the box - it very much looks like she's trying to remove all traces of year-old poop that the BTs cleaned up last season. It could be her that cleaned it up originally! In the past few days there have been three, four, five extended visits per day, with manic pecking and including some wriggles (see last post for one of these). The wriggles seem to be increasing in frequency, too. Another one about 18s into this clip. Camera quality still frustratingly lower than with the old camera.

More poo patrol. She's really stepped this up today, working in bursts of about 5-10 minutes. Last year the BT pair that nested in my tree box did a similar thing - there was a lot to clean up after a winter roosting GT and they went on a real mission. Fascinating behaviour, and not something I was aware happened until I saw it on camera! I'm sure like Paul says this indicates they've pretty much chosen the box - unless any other takers muscle in or something bad happens like predation or whatever, it's looking very very promising I'd say.
