Not much to report here, starling still incubating her eggs, haven't seen any activity on the camera from my green triangle box with the first bluetit but I guess she is just incubating now and the nest hole is a bit far from the camera for it to notice movement so I'll need to be watching it at the right time, the second female is still going to the other box more regularly maybe she has a couple of eggs so not quite ready to settle down yet. I also have a couple of boxes down at my allotment but I don't know if they have any takers yet, I'll pop down there in a bit as I need to plant some seeds and have a look

Plenty of activity in box 1 with a pair of bluetits, looking like nest building is imminent!

Oh Sammi, never known such a year on the forum, maybe it will happen yet. I have the hogs to feed and enjoy in the garden at least to keep me occupied.

Thanks Linda, great to hear you have a nest, hope it goes well. I had a nest start as late as the 29th April so yeah, will see what happens but looking unlikely.

Don’t give up hope yet. I had too and then last Sunday evening out of the blue as had no interest in the box bar one quick visit a blue tit has begun nest building! I am in the south west and this is much later than usual. I had put a new camera in so was really disappointed when I thought I wasn’t going to have a nest. Fingers crossed for you

Trouble is, the trees seem to be leafing up etc and you wonder if the birds will miss the caterpillar time that is so important to them. Maybe they can see and understand more than us and maybe they know things just aren’t ready yet - wish we knew. Let’s hope that’s all it is. Yes, we were at Mawes today. Misty and cold. Seems the south coast is missing out on the nice weather the rest of the uk is experiencing - typical . However, that makes Elizabeth and Malcolm’s boxes even more of a mystery as they should be getting a bit warmer weather. Sue

It certainly is a strange one. Weather wise Sue you will know first hand how chilly it is down here Malcolm and Elizabeth's boxes are a surprise though. It seems there are a few birds about but not in full breeding mode.

Not been able to see any visits today either Sammi. Lots of shadows but haven’t found anything else. The amount of empty nest boxes on the forum this year is now getting very sad indeed Sue

Decided to call them Mack and Milly. Caught Mack bringing a morsel in for Milly today - that's the first time I've seen him - still not got the recorder rigged up. the cables are in a box at the bottom of a pile in the corner of "the office" (spare room). Great names. Mack looks like he will be a good Dad I have cupboards full of wires and not a clue what some of them are from

Looks interesting - the review says autofocus isn't continuous for video recording...is that still the case? Tempting to get one just to have a play with it... Guessing it's possible in theory to get a stream from it via ffmpeg or something? Yes, should be possible to get it going via ffmpeg which is what I used to do with the original pi camera - just haven't got round to it yet. No continuous autofocus and tbh the autofocus isn't great anyway - you can't choose focal points or anything like that. However luckily we don't need to change focus too much generally, and it is possible to manually adjust focus via key presses which is probably enough. Also capable of focussing very close, which is good (see image below). Wirth getting IMO if you use a pi since they are pretty cheap. To be honest pi cameras aren't that great compared to mobile phones etc, and I have an ever growing pile of old android phones with far better camera/better processors etc. I keep meaning to work out how to use one in a nest box - maybe next year if I have time!

Well I do know I’m not suffering alone It’s not a happy feeling at all I’ve no idea where mine are nesting this time people close to me wouldn’t know what a bird box was so I’ve no idea Weather is so slow at picking up, I’ve learnt something now not to be so taken up with it all I’m going to ignore next season altogether 😊

Hi Sue I am glad you are enjoying your stay despite the weather. Sounds just like the weather we have been getting in the Falmouth area. It's a strange thing the weather can be totally different within an hours drive. The Minack is a stunning place but you need good weather for the evening performances Hope your nesters are planning a nice surprise for your return
