Thanks Guys - this is one of those times when one is really grateful for small mercies. I just hope the chick manages to get through these first couple of days.
Still no sign of the other egg hatching.....
There seems to be plenty of food about Sammi - flies, spiders and small larvae, the only problem at the moment is that Mac has been tending to bring in the same size stuff as he was feeding to Meg and they don't always seem to be able to break it down with their 'tug of war' actions and Meg eats it after she's sent Mac out of the box!
The camera isn't an expensive one Kathy, it is a wireless one, not HD or anything like that. I know wireless cameras don't get that good a press, but for me, with my box being on the wall, only about 25ft from the receiver and recorder, just outside of a bedroom window, it does the trick - no cables trailing about through windows and across floors - just a weather protected mains source close to the box. I did invest in a better quality wireless camera last year, but haven't got round to putting it in, - 'if it ain't broke, why fix it?'
I don't think there will be any rush to get mealies this year - a family of 1 (or 2?) shouldn't be much of a problem to feed. Now if only the BTs had continued with the nest in the cherry tree.......
