Is it possible the great tits have a nest elsewhere and are holding this box for a second brood (perhaps they fancy a new site for new brood) 
. Or maybe the male has another female somewhere and is trying for a second female/nest. Only time will tell I guess. Hope it continues to fruition though Amanda. Lovely to see the blue tits doing so well.
