It seems that I was a little premature in writing Meg's obit yesterday, as she turned up at roosting time around 7pm! She regarded her clutch of 2 eggs as something quite unfamiliar, staring at them for about half an hour, occasionally touching them with her beak, but making no attempt to incubate them. She eventually got out of the nestcup and tucked under in the corner of the nestbox with her tailfeathers dangling over the edge of the cup and went to sleep. When I switched on this morning, she had left the nest at about 5-30am and the eggs were in the same position in the cup as last night, the only difference was they had several deposits of bird poo over them! However, she came back into the box around 0830 today and began cleaning up the nest cup, after which she has continued to incubate as if nothing different had occurred. I cannot believe that after all that has happened since midday yesterday to around 0900 this morning, together with the saga of the egg laying, that I cannot really expect a result - but I'll wait and see. If it all comes to nothing, they might decide to give it another go, perhaps with a proper sized clutch.
