You really never had a female pecking at the hole and stuff Kathy? 
That is all my females ever do haha woodpeckers on the hole and inside the box.
I can normally tell my male visits as they look "lost" and look like they are awaiting someone else to join them.
I can't believe you've never had a female do this though, Isn't it weird how these birds all act different.
Some good news though was watching weather before and big high pressure system is over UK all week going to be pretty much 11c all week in Liverpool.
Feeling like spring apparently, Maybe get things stepping up abit for everyone milder weather coming into the middle February.
I am hoping its a march start for us all this year, So hopefully we don't get another beast from the east during March
