Our female sparrow is still roosting every night Karen, She's brought a few pieces of straw in but nothing major.
I think the sparrows normally get going in February but she won't lay eggs until mid march / late march.
Sparrows stay loyal to the nest site / each other though, So maybe the one you seen as last years fully built nest and just freshing it up.
I remember I left out sparrow nest in one year, The next year they only brought a tiny bit of material in and just fluffed the nest up and started laying.
I take it out every year now though, Box is rotting after 3 broods always needs a good clean.
