Heron visitor

How have you found your wildlife pond for attracting birds (and other wildlife)? Obviously enough to get the heron curious! The reason I ask is that we (myself and my two boys) have just finished making a wildlife pond in our garden. It's very early days, of course, but we are hoping it will attract a few interesting creatures soon enough. We literally only got it filled this past week (rainwater only, and typically it didn't rain at all for nearly a month after we dug it!).
