The babies have flown, actually well over a week ago. Since then there has been a fair amount of activity with at least 4 martins flying up to the nest, flapping about and making a noise but not going in.
Today our neighbour told us he found the nest all broken on the ground with one broken egg in it. We do not know if a second brood was going to happen - sadly not now though.
