My apologies Ann I have missed so many posts I am having to catch up slowly. Fat is okay for baby birds if it is part of an overall insect diet. My BT's usually start to introduce it close to fledging. However, in the early years before I put out live food it was on some occasions the only thing coming into the nest which isn't good. Hope it is the former with your nest. Not sure if it is good for Wrens though?
