Paul, I have cried for you and with you 
.you have tried so very hard for all your birds and I am really gutted that this has happened for you. At least you showed that dear little sparrow love and kindness before it’s demise. Hopefully the other little one that you have lovingly saved will go on to have a long and happy life all thanks to your efforts. You should be very proud of yourself.
as for what is happening to the blue tits, it seems like anyone’s guess this year. It’s a dreadful year for so many of us. I am not known to swear a lot but I totally agree with your statement re the 2019 season. Big hugs from me
