Thanks Diane for your nice comments. The laurel bush grows rapidly in the warmer months and then it produces a lovely cream flower which is followed by a dark grape like fruit. 
The wasps and bees love the flowers and the birds get their fill from the fruit. The grassed area is going to extended further back soon.
