Oooh Kevin, I wish I could swap gardens with you or Elle, both are lovely sizes when you're as old as I am! 
Your laurel bush is a lovely size, mine is about 3 feet tall or 36" (just under a metre?) one trunk and about 6 branches coming off it, so quite thin. I read they grow like the clappers & thicken out quickly just like leylandii conifers which is what I want - I don't have to worry about it getting 18 feet high & even wider - that will be the new owners problem.
