They do have a smell to them Kathy, I can't describe how it smells though! 
Robin seems to be enjoying them though and he / she doesn't touch the dried mealworms so only a good sign really funky
They look like waxworms shape wise but brown colour like a mealworm I'll show you a picture now below
I will probably try these out live version for nesting season, just pop them in feeder after the waxworms and give the chicks a little calcium to the diet.
I'll let you know how the live ones go during nesting season.
