Great news Sue....who knows what is going on but at least there are bluetits still around 
My theory is that they are all in the woods checking out the oaks. We went for a walk today around the headland where the oaks are and the buds are only just opening. There were several bluetits around hanging on the branches as if testing the buds. Maybe the edginess you see in the female is an increased urgency to get mating. Best of luck, and I hope they settle down soon.
