I had this year 2017-
A beautiful female BT on my fence with a beak full of moss. I said to myself, here we are, all systems go. What happened next floored me. She flew to my neighbors roof and entered a little cavity. Absolutely gutting and heart wrenching, you feel betrayed, especially feeding them all Winter with the feeding stations out!. Hopes built up to the max and dash in a split second. But what got my dander well up, she was using MY garden moss! The cheek of it! Needless to say my nestbox then was a bit rubbish (too shallow) and I purchased the upgrade, so now it's two nests in two years.
Keep the faith, she will make the right choice for her at the end of the day! Even the male can't do much.
