Chick #10 hatched about 1.30pm today - just saw a glimpse of an eggshell being eaten by mum before she settled down over them all again:
Dad seems to have been leaving some long gaps between visits this afternoon - there were 3 adults doing the rounds since January and I'm wondering if he's got split loyalties between my nest and the other female's nest elsewhere. Anyway, he hasn't completely deserted his duties here, so hopefully still giving enough support.
One interesting moment revealed itself this afternoon when a chick got fed a fairly large chunk of green caterpillar, but couldn't swallow it and spent ages trying to grapple with it before dad finally took it out of its mouth again and fed it to a sibling. Quite amusing to see, but somehow a bit concerning as I've read that chicks sometimes choke on caterpillars
