South West London close to Richmond Park… parakeets have been on the rise here for the last 20 years at least. It’s not their fault they’re flourishing but they change the sound of the birdsong around the place and not for the better … just a constant loud squawking! I think they’re officially now classed as a pest here. They also monopolise the feeders when they visit. Not a fan, I have to admit.
Thanks for the tips on nest box positioning. I don’t have too many options so if the new box went in the same tree it’d only be about 6ft away from the existing one at most. I’ll have to have a think!
