UPDATE: The one baby finally came to the opening and was poking its head out for a few days. Dad constantly coaching from our garden flag underneath. The next day (yesterday) we were sitting outside and he suddenly jumped but was "stuck". He tried to free himself, hanging upside down by one leg. I only let it go on for a few seconds. He couldn't free himself!!! Ran and got a ladder and held him trying to figure out why he was "stuck". I pulled the branch free from the inside where his leg was and noticed a thread wrapped around his leg to the branch. OMG, i was shaking so bad. I sat down with him while my partner got some tiny scissors. He'd apparently gotten tangled up somehow during the "snake struggle" and it had been like that for a while. His leg had developed an indentation from the string but otherwise looked ok. Finally we freed him by cutting the string!!! I put him down and he finally hopped off into my neighbor's garden with dad. We watched for a while. Hopefully he made it thru the night. My nest is down and clean. I won't put it back up this year and will modify it so I can open it if I have to.
Karenupnorth, I wish I'd had the hindsight to put a camera in. I have video of him after he jumped but when I saw he was stuck, I stopped. I do have one picture of him after I'd released him but it's blurry.
