Yes, I'm still about - Hello everyone!
It seems we're all having mixed experiences with nesting or no nesting this year. The weather in different regions must be playing a big part in the hesitancy of some of our favourites to begin building/laying.
We keep having the thermometer dipping to zero or below at night - after vacating my wallbox a few nights ago the long term rooster was back again last night, so perhaps he will hang on a bit longer?
I haven't seen any activity in the cherry tree box which was dislodged in one of the storms in the autumn/winter and rehung earlier in the year, but when I switched the camera on to check for any activity in early March there was no picture, so I've given up on that for now - it still had the abandoned blue tit nest in there from last year when I did get a picture on the camera when it was hanging upside down after the storms.
The adapted box in the pear tree, in which I was hoping to get a robin nesting, was a complete failure - I built it last year while the tree was still in leaf, not realising that there would be little or no leaf cover in March/April time, so there has been no interest at all in that! I might try to re-site it in the conifer hedge which runs down the side of the garden for next year.
I'm still hoping for something in the wallbox this year, but I suppose, realistically, the chances are pretty slim now.
Anyway best of luck to all you guys who have got nests/eggs/chicks - I'll keep looking in on you!
