I think more than just weather goes into it though Matt, You said your main trees in the area are oak trees, Here we don't have any of them but all the trees we do have the buds and leaves are now opening and showing green.
Everything is timed perfectly here, Last year one of my blue tits was laying .eggs while the other was still building.
That is two different blue tits at totally different stages in the same area, Thats why I always say don't give up hope until the very end of April.
Because anything can happen with them, late nesters, nest disturbed, second or third females 1 male.
