Well maybe I spoke too soon - a bit of activity over lunch time from the sparrows! The male once again entered the box for quite a while (a couple of minutes), whilst calling to the female, who was perched just outside the hole. Eventually the male left, and the female poked her head through the hole a couple of times - but didn't go right in. This is the furthest inside she has been so far, so hopefully she likes what she sees..
