Maybe I have very well behaved Cats in that case, But I have 4 youngest being 8 and oldest 15 and between them only two bird deaths in all them years. Both dosy baby birds, They do however kill alot of mice and rats from the waste land at the back of the garden but never birds, Our cats bring anything they kill back and cry by the door with it.
However I still stand by what I say that this doesn't sound like a cat killing, Cats like to play with their pray before killing it letting it go then grabbing it again and teasing it. 1 cat couldn't do that with 2 birds at once its pretty much impossible, However this time of year nasty fights do break out which leads to deaths this sounds more likely.
If you watch this video you'll see how nasty these fights get, This is a man holding two while fighting and they are still going for it he picked them up off the grass. Imagine he didn't stop them atleast one would of been dead for sure.
