Here's the starling box Paul. 45mm hole, inside has turned out 13.5cm diameter, was aiming for 14cm which is the same size as the very popular Schwegler starling box. Hopefully they'll still take to one a fraction smaller, although it does look a little tight for a clutch of nearly grown starlings! Hole is 45mm. Just wondering now about whether some sort of perch/ledge is required under the hole, as this is something I have seen on the commercial boxes for starlings:
