The only camera we have is the old fashioned type, but it wasn't with me when I was standing in our Big Shed on 19 May, which is the date our GT chicks fledged! I saw the parents still ‌flying into the bird box in the morning when I was sitting in the garden, but at 2.00p.m. I went into the shed to fetch something. It's piled high with all the bushes that I cut down on our back fence in February waiting to be cut up & recycled. I heard a rustling noise behind me & when I turned round to see what it was - a little head was poking out of the heap & then the rest of the gorgeous chick emerged & it just sat there on top of the heap. It chirped, had a reply so it fluttered & landed on the edge of a step stool & stayed there. Then a repeat of the chirps & replies etc. to land on the edge of a plastic chair - then finally it flew out of the shed & over to the parent/s in the red robin bush. All of this took 3 minutes, plenty of time to take photos, but I will always have the beautiful memory of seeing one up close & personal. The rest of the day & everyday since, no GT's going into the bird box, so next week sometime we'll take the box down & hopefully just see an empty nest in there.
