You have the same feeder as me Hardy except I hang mine from a tree. The Robin and Sparrows take the mealies as well as the Blue Tit's however I use my Scott feeders for the BT's when the large feeder is empty, this way everyone who can get in the tree one gets something but my birds always have a supply.
Sorry to hear of a possible demise in your nest but yes they are very swift at removing them. In fact in 2014 I have video of mum pecking a dead chick breaking it up and taking it out bit by bit. Gruesome but it didn't feel any pain!
