I have a diamond robin box hidden away behind a budlea bush, gives me a little hope that one day a robin will choose it

Well it was a real surprise to me but I think I noticed it too late as I fear they have fledged. I have learned that Robins are very shy and if they see that their nest has been noticed they will go elsewhere. However, if the female is incubating eggs she will naturally stay there as long as possible. As you say never give up hope, if you have everything in the right place no reason for them not to nest in your garden. Like you I shall certainly keep them peeled next year.
