We have only had 2 chicks hatch today. No sign of the male although there is one feeding fledgies which could be ours. Mrs GT has been going in and out regularly but is now asleep at 8.30pm. Wonder whether the others will hatch tomorrow or if we have another small clutch to follow.

Looks like we are having 2 chicks and 5 non starters. No more have hatched and Mrs GT is out and about getting food for the 2 hatchees. I did see Mr GT in the tree outside but he seems to be feeding the previous brood although it has been almost 3 weeks since they fledged - they seem to be eager to stay and be fed by the father! Not sure how long it would be between last hatching and any possible further eggs being viable?

Interesting the delayed hatching. I suppose if Dad helps out then if the hatching is spread the later ones may stand a chance..

Yes. 2 chicks but they look healthy and strong and are being fed by male and female like before.

Only two is a shame Meryl, but they do stand a really good chance with having almost individual attention, just hope they don’t get too fat to get out of the box. Sue

That's a shame, and a bit of an anticlimax Meryl, but looking on the positive side - you still have something to watch for another two and a half weeks.

Our 2 are progressing - their eyes are almost open today. I saw the female bringing in some nesting material and I tried an experiment and put some cat fur on the hedge to see and she's taken some of it into the nestbox. This is what she did before. I assume she can't possibly be thinking about having a third batch of chicks?

I wouldn't be surprised at anything this year Meryl.

Perhaps she just wants to make the nest cup more comfy & soft for them?!

Our 2 chicks have just fledged - the first at 7.08pm and the other at 7.20pm. They got safely into the bushes in the back garden. Think that should be all for this year. There was some nesting material in our front box which wasn't there 2 weeks ago but this hasn't changed over the last few days and is probably abandoned. 5 chicks out of 12 eggs this year which seems a decent number.

Hmm - would you believe the female has come back in the box and is roosting? This is what happened last time - 3rd brood happening?

Hi Meryl Glad those two got away safely. I'd forgotten yours were still to go. I wonder if you'll get another brood. It has been a funny old year 🙂

for the good news that your two chicks fledged safely yesterday Meryl. Five chicks altogether this year is also good news seeing as it's been none from other members, including me. Maybe your female is just resting overnight in your box after her ordeals & it's still cold & raining here, so maybe your weather is/was the same.
