I thought I would share with you all something I am doing at work, I work in a residential home for elderly people, it has a large garden with a pond surrounded in mature trees and hedges, there are many birds around but not a single bird feeder in sight, so I am beginning to introduce feeders and also I have put some bird boxes up(which one is getting a great deal of interest from the Blue tits) I have ordered a cheap feeding station that I plan to place in front of the sun room so the residents can see them come and go, I so enjoy watching the birds and believe it is very therapeutic and will I hope give the residents great joy. One lady who stays in her room which faces onto the carpark cannot see the goings on in the main garden so I placed some ground feeders and a small bird bath in a large planter just outside her window which she sits and watches and she has told me she is getting Blackbirds and a Robin visited yesterday, it is great to see her delight when telling me what she has seen. I will post some pics up when I get all set up fully. Anyone else do any thing similar at their work place.

As Paul has said, that's a lovely thing for you to do Karen . I know I would really miss seeing all bird activity if I end up in a home or hospital for a long time.

Such a lovely idea Karen. I know if I ever have to go into a home I have told the family I would need to be able to watch the birds.

I am naming them Victoria and Albert as my work place is a grand victorian residence, that was for the well to do of the day. She has been bringing in moss since Monday last week so the nest should be well on its way.

Thanks elle, I have thought about if I could set it up for them but the box is quite aways from the house and just don think it is possible, even wireless I think the signal wouldn't reach that far. Today I dropped off some of my dogs fur and put in on the lawn and she was straight to it, so egg laying cant be far away! So wish I could see the inside! I am next at work on Saturday and will try and get some more pics.

Shame you can't have a camera Karen for that nest box, but at least you know that she's doing well!

Oh Karen what a shame the nest box is too far away for a wired camera, it would have been wonderful. I personally are not too keen on wireless, I started off in the beginning of nest box watching with a wireless one, but it always had interference, so that probably wouldn’t be best for the residents anyway! cant wait to see if the female goes on to have chicks Elle xx

Thanks all, yes it is a great shame, I know a few of the residents would love to see this secret world, but I keep them informed of their progress and show them photos. It is going to be guess work with whats really going on but look forward to see how things go.

I am pretty sure the nest is complete now as I saw no material going in while there yesterday, she was putting the soft lining in on Thursday so think she is done. Wont really have any way of knowing the egg situation until she starts incubating

Update: Victoria is roosting in the nest now, saw her come in last night at 7.15pm, no clue regarding eggs, so frustrating not having a camera inside

The suspense I know it’s early but hope you get to see when the chicks appear Karen, you’ll have to start calculating then start doing ‘overtime’ at work, or better still, take a bed so you don’t miss anything Elle xx

So I think I will have to make a special journey to catch the chicks, once I see the male feeding the female then I guess she is incubating, that be the next stage.
