Hey all, it's nice to see you all once again. It's all so shiny and new here :-)
As usual I'm running late. Honestly I think the birds are used to it by now.,, There are no major changes this year apart from an improved power supply for the Raspberry Pi's. I'm hoping this will reduce the crashes I was seeing on the top camera.
Here's a chick's-eye view from the inside...

Good to have you back with us Phil, I don't think you being late will matter not a whole lot happening for alot of us when it comes to the blue tits. Good luck with your box again this year

The stream is now online at webcam.sanslogic.co.uk/. I've made a few tweaks to the audio so hopefully the wifi interference will not be as bad as last year. No visitors yet ;-)

It's all very quiet here. A Great Tit has shown the most interest, with just a few very quick peeks through the entrance. Oddly, a Blue Tit chased it away but has yet to actually go to the box. There has been some snow recently which might have slowed things down, but the weather is to improve so hopefully activity will pick up.
I replaced the Raspberry Pi computer that powers the top camera and lights at the weekend, it was still crashing every few days. The new one has been running for over 48 hours now without incident so hopefully that's that problem solved. Annoyingly the crashy Pi has also ran perfectly since I brought it back in :-)

Good luck Phil! Which model Pi are you using? I have found instability is (almost) invariably either dodgy power supply or corrupting SD card issues.

There are two Pi Zero W's. My first guess was power supply, but this year I used a single overkill 5A DC-DC for both and the same Pi kept crashing. Crashy Pi does have a Samsung SD card vs the more common Sandisk on the good Pi, so that's still a possibility. I was hoping it would continue crashing when I brought it back indoors so I could finally get an answer :-)

A very quick visit from the Great Tit.

Another quick visit from the Great Tit, and as before a Blue Tit chased it away. The BT is showing no interest in the box at all, except when another bird dares look at it and then it's all "OMG MY BOX GO AWAY SHOO SHOO".
Maybe it's last year's male?

Frustrating isnt it, I have this also, the pair of BTs appear to have chosen next doors box, but anything that comes near my boxes get chased away!

Is there another box near Phil?

Could be a territory thing Phil, Our male blue tit chased away a blackbird this morning from a box not even getting visited Blackbird landed by another one my boxes that isn't even being used or visited and our male from the box being nested in still chased it

I hadn't thought of a territorial fight, but that makes sense. I watched the box yesterday and the little blue tit was chasing *everyone* away from the area. Even birds twice a big :-) But I can't see where else they could be nesting nearby. There's just a wall, and some small trees.

Now there's a blue tit showing interest in the box. I'm not sure if this is angry bird, or a different blue tit. This is so confusing

Might be your angry blue tit Phil They do keep you guessing though don't they?

The Great Tit was back. His visits are still very brief. C'mon little guy, it's safe.

I know bees are having it hard right now, but I don't want it setting up home in the nest box. Any ideas for safely removing it?
