I reckon there could be something hiding in there. Timer earlier please . The infrequent visits make me feel she’s just checking everything ok with her nest/eggs - ooh I hope so. Sue

I'm with Sue on this one Beechnut. I mean they don't really sit on them much do they until they are all laid? So if she isn't building any more, then there has to be a good chance that there is something in there. Would be nice to get confirmation tomorrow! Who knows how many might get revealed?

Not much changed on tonight's roosting - she wriggled into the cup showing me absolutely nothing! Here's a pic of Tuppence in the cup and the nest top strewn with fluffy stuff!

I don't think there's anything there yet! Here's the nestbox a few minutes ago.

Maybe it’s just not the right time for her to lay yet Beechnut, I am sure when she’s ready she will, So far Natalie’s blue tit is the only one laying. She did mention about feeding a lot of live mealworms to them already though, Maybe hers know they have good supply food so went for it. Are you feeding the live food yet? I don’t start until few days before the eggs hatch myself.

Yes Paul, that's what I'm hoping. I don't remember such a long gap between nest building completed and start of laying!
As regards feeding live mealworms, I don't usually until the young have hatched and start them on minis.

Wow Beechnut things are certainly moving at your place, it is fascinating how some peoples’ nests are ready and others haven’t even got started, it just amazes me every year fingers crossed she starts laying for you soon It’s so exciting Elle xx

No sign of an egg this morning - Tuppence spent about 20 minutes covering the cup and general tidying, and yet again showed me nothing. I'm not even getting that excited about looking at the playback each morning.

Hi Beechnut, the highs and lows of this time of year...it is awful. I know what you mean though. Don't give up hope. At least she's still tending the nest...she could just be waiting for that final trigger. I haven't seen one great tit even look at my boxes this year (apart from the one checking out the ivy Robin box) and normally they do have a look...although they never stay

She will lay when the time is right Beechnut, I had a blue tit in 2016 who had her nest fully completed for well over a week before she started laying. They know when the time is right so don't be to disheartened.

Still no eggs this morning.
She spent around an hour covering the cup and general cleaning and stretching before leaving the box just after 6am.

Tuppence came into the box about 5-45pm, began messing about opening the cup and pulling white stuff about, then a few minutes later left the box with what looks like an egg uncovered!

Certainly does look like an egg and what a lot of feathers, nice and cosy.GT's lay about a week before BT's so I'm expecting an egg next week from Flo. Good luck to your forthcoming brood.

Thanks guys, I haven't been able to see an uncovered nest cup as yet, so no idea as to the current total of eggs.

I think this is a first time nester - Tuppence had laid 4 eggs (obviously the one seen on Saturday was the first) and it appears that she is now quite probably incubating!

At least Tuppence is letting you have a good view now. Is she staying on the eggs for long?

The fact that she's leaving the eggs uncovered when she goes out for a break, makes me think that incubation has begun Sammi. Normally with GTs, until incubation starts she will cover the cup before leaving in the morning and not uncover it until roosting at night.
Tuppence covered the cup this morning and left about 0730. She was back in and sitting on the eggs around 1030. She has been in and out 2 or 3 times since with periods of varying lengths on and off the eggs, but not covering them at all when she leaves.

Nice one Beechnut. 4 eggs keeps things nice and easy - probably better that way to be honest. Mine had 11 last year and less than half fledged, so hopefully you will be spared that trauma!
