I really can’t wait for the hols to start Ann although I have got a few things on in first week Female is also doing okey kokey with nesting material, strangely though, a few times I’ve thought that she was going to lay already on bare patch of wood, because she’s spent quite long periods of time just sat in the middle of it she’s still adding little bits but then back to how it was when she started in the morning cos she takes it out again! weather is horrendous today, Hail and thundery showers. I don’t know if she’s waiting to see if her partner is gonna show! Elle xx

Well Sammi, weather has been horrendous, Ice and hail for last couple of days, so the female is only putting tiny amounts in the nest and seems to be taking more out, I don’t know why, but I still have a gut feeling that the nest is not going to be completed, just a feeling I am off work for a couple of weeks from tomorrow, so when I am able to observe during the day, hopefully I might have more confidence. Fingers crossed she keeps going & hopefully I’m not a “back-up nest”! Elle xx

Elle, I think you maybe overthinking things, Taken material out happens for many of people over the years. Malcolm and Elizabeth had nearly full nests being built and removed and redone in the past. If the weathers been anything like It as in Liverpool the birds won't be in rush to get it build yet! On the plus side it does look like temps rising again from tomorrow and drier.
I think you'll get a nest everything that is happening is only a good sign.

Hi Elle. I'm sure it's just a weather thing. Mine have slowed down a bit recently as if biding their time till everything is in place. Our local trees are slow in getting going too. I'm sure they will get the job done soon.

Thanks all for the reassurances, you are all probably right, I do get over anxious until egg laying starts As you say Kathy another funny year, isn’t it strange how every year we have a “strange/weird” year in some way or another as we always say, they know what they are doing but panic still sets in with me and last year the female didn’t start laying while 9th April. Elle xx

Ah, bless her & she's so pretty too. The nest looks really comfy, so a few more feathers will make it better still! Enjoy watching for the next two weeks.

Morning all Well the female is really packing in the feathers today so She keeps going. The male which is definitely Zorro from last year, is basically leaving her to get on, he paid a couple of visits to the hole in the beginning to check on her handy work, but since then he stays in a tree opposite the box when she goes in, then when she flies out after depositing some material, he flies off with her then it all starts again. I’m pretty sure after he stepped up last year, he will make a good provider! This is definitely not ‘Dot’ as she hasn’t got the markings, probably why the nest is neat! So will have to think of a name for her Don’t know when eggs will start, but normally in the past the female in my boxes don’t start ‘sleeping’ in until egg laying has started, at least I will be off to see the egg laying Elle xx

I wouldn't be so sure about that Elle , If your female is anything like our Tatty you don't stand a chance I think shes up to egg 4 now I am yet to see one! I mean I could be wrong but her behaviour in the cup suggestions she is laying, Hiding the cup then of a night when coming into roost removing everything off the top of the cup and fixing under her all the time. She is basically acting like shes hiding something! Hasn't give me a chance to see 1 egg yet and its a top view box so seeing eggs isn't a problem She will expose them for when she is ready I suppose, I normally go from seeing no eggs to turning it on one morning and 9 in the cup and she is incubating!
