Hi all, since the last posting I have only had literally 1 visit by the male, the female doesn’t seem interested at all. I can see them flying up & down past the house, and we usually only have a couple of pairs in neighbourhood & there seems to be a fair few BT all flying together, I was hoping some of my chicks from last year would be a bit more loyal & come back maybe . iv been quite anxious watching them flying by, & inwardly I’ve been shouting “hello, there’s 3 vacancies here!”, i don’t know why, but I really do have a gut feeling that I won’t be successful with a nest this year Im hoping they know the weather is going to be bad from tomorrow, at least till after weekend, so they might be just waiting Elle xx

Early days Elle. Do not lose hope. It is the same in my garden.....the birds are about but no interest in the boxes. They are busy feeding and getting into tip top shape and I'm sure they are keeping an eye on their boxes from a distance (well that's what I'm trying to convince myself) I am trying to remain positive but next year I don't think I'll turn on my cameras so early.....it's too frustrating

Sammi... Iv been reading a few of the links what people have posted regarding this ‘getting into tip -top condition’, I can honestly say I have never heard of this before, but I do hope they are right I agree with it being early though, so next couple of weeks we should be a little closer to knowing, as interest should pick up a bit by then, or not! Elle xx

If it makes you feel better Elle, My blue tits aren't very active at the moment. I am getting the odd visits to the boxes (that I am seeing) but nothing special. I don't normally switch my cameras on until around 10:30am / 11am though in the past alot my visits are around 9am - 10am So maybe I am missing alot of the action, But what I am seeing so far it isn't anything to get excited over.

Same here, as I was out all day gardening yesterday. Sitting on my favourite seat having cups of coffee in the morning & afternoon, although lots of birds in the garden & having a drink & baths in our pond header - no sightings at all of interest in my nest box - only a couple of great tits drinking & eating & then flying off.

Ditto, nothing much happening here despite the better weather. Think the birds are wise enough to know relevant trees not in bud yet let alone leaf. Truth be told I am not usually watching my boxes this early as not normally had any interest until late March. Guess the new forum led me to get excited and start watching, plus other people’s interest in their boxes. Probably had interest earlier before but never been watching so perhaps this lull is ‘normal’ and never noticed it before - well i’m Keeping everything crossed that this is true Sue

I agree folks we have all taken keen early interest.....I am watching earlier as my lovely hubby made a hole in our window frame to pass the cables through so that we don't have to have a window open for the cables. Normally the cameras wouldn't be on till much later when the weather is warmer This early watching is fascinating but so frustrating I certainly wouldn't have known I'd had hibernating wasps in there.

Ditto sammi, my hubby did a great job of feeding all 3 cables from cameras in the house through the window frame,so we dont have window on vent!

Where would we be without these guys -so technical! I wouldn't have even a box if it was left to me to put up. Elle don't despair your birds know what they are doing and they do fatten up for the breeding season as it takes a lot out of them.I have my for you. By the way did Billy like his gift?

Thank you all for the reassurances, like Sue, I also don’t usually start watching from this early so maybe it’s something which happens every year, I just haven’t seen it kathy... Billy loved the calendar, also the extra touch of your letter explaining about the forum etc., lovely touch, thank you Elle xx

Hi Ann, absolutely nothing at all is happening but weather is so bad I’m hoping they know what they are doing and holding off! had literally a couple of visits but nothing to write home about sadly, and still it’s mainly the male what stays in box but as soon as the female goes in, it’s like she can’t wait to get out time will tell Elle xx

Well folks I have eventually had a visit 2 or 3 days ago, first time in I don’t know how long. Female didn’t stay in long but managed a half hearted ‘wiggle’, but at least its a start but Nothing since I have been keeping my eyes peeled as there is literally no birds about, very quiet all round. This usually means one thing.... hawks!! Fingers crossed for next few weeks Elle xx

Well after my visit and wiggle, I’ve had a handful of visits but no more wiggles and only short stays, however, I have got a couple of feathers in the box so I think some preening may have been going on whilst I’m at work if my memory serves me right, last year my pair really started visiting on 24th March, but first moss wasn’t brought in until 9th April so I’m still hopeful icon_biggrin Fingers crossed for everyone Elle xx
