Great pic uploading Elle I have a very messy rooster box and I noticed today a female ( I presume) taking a couple of pieces out....but like you say it's going to be a while before its clean! Once they set their mind to it though won't take long... A bit like me and housework ....I wish!

Dear Sue - you'll be able to do it, have faith. I managed it as an experiment & if I can do it, anybody can!

Well since my last post of the visits to my side box, I’ve had absolutely nothing, big fat zero, zilch!! I’m sure the female saw all the poo and thought s*d that I’m off . No visits to the feeders, let alone any of the boxes, unless they’re visiting whilst I’m at work. Roll on weekend so I can keep eyes peeled . I usually help the birds have a sweep out before spring (well hubby does it!) but unfortunately he’s had a fight with a circular saw in his line of work, and is now recovering from plastic surgery after loosing the end of a digit (How inconsiderate at this time of year). He has however been able to clean one of the lower boxes of poo, but it’s the side box on the house which he can’t do, and I can’t climb the ladder I only hope the female will decide the male is worth it and come back Elle xx

Hope the hubby as a speedy recovery Elle! Make sure he doesn't milk it to much though get him up on that ladder when he can I am the same, I give my rooster boxes a clean every month or two. Going to give them the last clean out at the beginning of March I think see how the weather is and activity might leave it till mid march if not good try and leave it as close to nest building as possible.

Always try and clean them now and then Paul, especially when I have roosters, unfortunately even they’ve fled, I hope it’s not a sign of things to come oh don't worry Paul he defo won’t milk it, ‘happy wife, quiet life’! remember Elle xx

Hi Elle Gosh hope your hubby gets better soon. If it's any consolation I too had nothing today. I must admit I've never cleaned a box out after a rooster. I've usually left them to it as I don't want to upset the status quo. Maybe I will give a quick clean as I want to adjust the camera angle slightly so I can see the entrance in the shots......or I'll get Hubby to do it...even better

Hi Sammi Just be a bit careful with the adjustment of camara (trying to get hole in view) as I once tried this in my earlier birding years and made a mistake as I soon found out that most birds build nests towards the back of box, and with the depth of the nest, I soon lost view of the nest cup! Hard lesson!
Elle Xx

I'm sorry to read about your husband's accident Elle, so I too hope that it won't take too long to heal completely.

Oh elle just catching up only to read of your hubby's accident, tell him to get well soon from me. Hope you are looking after him like a good wifey? my nephew has done something similar while repairing his works van underneath. Switched ignition on to check belt fingers in the way engine took two straight off and a glove with it! ouch!!!! he installs windows so fingers are necessary for the job. On the bird front they will be back........

Loving your sympathy towards your poor hubby Elle What are we like!? My hubby wouldn’t dare touch my bird boxes anyway cause he would be sure to damage something (not a diy or tech man) . Be kind to him Elle, he might get better quicker and be more useful Sue

Ouch Kathy!! Think your nephews accident sounds a lot worse than my hubbys’, it’s amazing though how quick these accidents can heal, hubby is back doing his work (with an extra large index finger!! Dressing comes off on 20th). I’ll have him up them ladders at weekend cleaning my side view box out and fitting my new lighting. Cos I’ve been such a good wifey Kathy Oh!!! And nurse Elle xx

To be honest Diane, it’s been driving him crazy not being able to do anything, he’s happiest when he’s working! So in theory I didn’t have to go to too much trouble! Elle xx

Oh Sue, I, like you had only done the one upload, but when I did it, I did say I didn’t know how!!!! I think I might just write instead of trying to put pics on, but I feel would be a real shame I’m like a child when it comes to tech stuff, I need picture step by step Awww Paul, you are so kind but I fear, when the season kicks off you will be overwhelmed!!, but I would really like to master this. I can imagine you saying, “what don’t you get!?”, cos that’s what my daughters say when they are trying to explain things on internet. Elle xx
