Couple more video clips from today - busiest day today so far with lots of trips fetching material and lots of wriggling.... plus more frantic pecking but the patch she's been pecking is slowly getting covered with material so hopefully it was all just a way of making a tiny bit more room at the bottom. One thing she does seem to be doing every so often is coming right up to the camera and giving a good old investigative peck! Hope the camera survives! Oh and I've fixed the camera timestamp now so the videos show the correct time of day

Nest building ongoing - really starting to see the cup formed now, but no lining yet...still the hard wooden floor visible. I guess loads of feathers will be brought in soon. Her work rate is a bit sporadic - it seems to increase in spells of sunny weather! Not seen the male coming into the box with treats for her for a few days. Hoping he's still around.

All looking great Pete! Nice that they have picked a different box this year aswell for you! Thanks Paul - and yes it's nice to get the pics from the other camera - I think the quality's much better, and the angle of view is nice. I'm amazed the camera still works...I've just left it in there for over 2 years. She's having a good go at pecking it from time to time so I hope it survives.

First night of roosting in the box tonight. She's been in and out all day putting the finishing touches to the nest, and sometime shortly after 7pm she returned and settled in for the night. Egg laying soon I guess!

Don't want to get too excited but I'm wondering if the first egg is visible in this clip...see below. The moment she lands in the box and the nesting material moves slightly, there looks to be something in the nest cup that's distinctly egg-shaped. Early in the morning she looked like she might be laying an egg - she sort of went oddly rigid and her beak was held open, for quite a long time, with her tail twitching. Anyway, eggs are surely due soon, so if I'm wrong this time it won't be for long...
She's also making those egg/chick-nurturing clucking sounds, which she hasn't been doing up until now.

That certainly looks like an egg to me Pete . Looked too solid to be anything else. I’ll do just a small celebration in case I’m wrong Sue

Nesting update - she's definitely started incubating as of around yesterday afternoon. Male is coming in quite a bit and feeding her - including one moment this afternoon where he brought her a large green caterpillar and she had quite a struggle to scoff it As far as number of eggs go it's really hard to tell in the side-view box - the angle of the camera just looks across the nest rather than downwards, so I think I've spotted three eggs for definite - I'm assuming there are more tucked away under there somewhere, as three would be quite a small batch. Time will tell I guess. Caterpillar feed moment below - one thing that occurs to me is that if/when the chicks hatch, a lot of the parent feeding will probably end up being done with the parent facing away from the camera as that seems to be the most convenient way for the parent birds to avoid stepping on the nest cup. Oh well never mind.

Wow, that was some caterpillar Pete , I hope he learns to bring in smaller ones when the chicks arrive . Fantastic that’s she has started incubating. How privileged are we to watch all this. Amazing. Sue

I absolutely love the clarity of your videos. She looks like she will be well looked after during her sitting time. A very juicy meal

Incubating day 6. Male still dutifully feeding female every so often. Pretty good glimpse of some of the eggs in this edited clip below. (there was a cat lurking nearby on a shed roof so I think that's why she seems cautious before leaving the box - plus all the warning calls)

Hatching day #1 today I was out all day, came back and checked the footage - realised the powerline adapters had turned themselves off so the camera was unavailable from around 2pm to around 6pm today... as I looked at the last video clip from around 2pm it showed a couple of newly-hatched chicks. Of all the days for something to go wrong with the camera feed! Anyway, it was working in the morning and caught the times when these first two hatched - although the camera angle means it's harder to see what's happening at this stage. Here's a clip from just before the camera went offline - it's back online now and recording ok, so hopefully I'll not miss anything tomorrow! The two parent birds are busy coming and going and attending to the two little chicks....
