Thanks Paul I'm sure it'll all be OK The contrast does improve as the light conditions change so it may just be the different natural light getting into the box.I just need a bit of colour in there to see (like a bluetit maybe ))..very quiet in all my boxes at the moment which seems to be the norm. Rest of the week looking very windy so maybe after that we'll see some action I'll give the lights a little longer ....they have such different surroundings that it's hard to compare like for like and I'll try to photograph each one from outside to see if I'm just imagining the difference in the LEDs it might even be the angle in looking into the boxes as one is higher off the ground than the other. ,

Hope you get your lighting sorted Sammi . I ordered an led from green feathers, but it doesn’t fit my camera . I have contacted green feathers as the camera was purchased from them originally, but have yet to get a reply. I think I will probably need an updated camera and not sure I am up to sorting that without a LOT of help , and hubby’s worse than me!!! Going to have to be nice to my son Sue

Hi Sue I hope you get your light sorted as it does make a difference. I'm sure we could all talk you through it if need be. What sort of connection does your camera have? I have one camera that has the wrong connection type to suit the LEDs so I'd be interested if there is a way around it.

Hi Sammi, my connections look the same but just larger so they don’t fit. I think my camera is an older 8v version so presume their 12v cameras have just slightly different size connectors. I see on their site (or on spycameras CCTV) that they do an adapter but have asked for their advice so will wait and hopefully get a response. Will let you know. Sue

Well things are looking up even in this awful weather. The patio box has had a visit or two from a cleaning lady I think lured in by the male (rooster?) Over in the old Aldi cam box a wriggle or two. It is Sod's Law that this should happen today when I was just about to put my new Garden Nature camera into this box. I'd even devised a cunning plan but I think I'll leave well alone for the time being as the camera seems to be holding its own for the moment. So happy days

Brilliant Sammi, Looking really good for you! I see you've got a new gardenature box, What one did you go for another pitched roof one?

Hi Paul ....I bought just a new camera to fit into the old pitched roof Boxwatch box......can always buy a camera ready box when this box gives up the ghost. I had put the old Aldi camera into it (rescued from the Aldi box that I demolished.) I put one of my new Garden Nature boxes in place of this box for this season which is the one that had the wasps in.....I seemed to have a couple interested in that one but nothing for a while now. The old Aldi cam box is further along the fence. I'll try to get some good outside shots to show the location. I am still hoping a great tit couple will find a home.

Thanks folks.....it is good to know they were just biding their time. its a year to the day I had the first moss laid down in one of my boxes. My plan to improve the camera in my old Boxwatch box has been thwarted by a tiny bulb. Does anyone remember these boxes? There was a little bulb which gave the light for the camera ....now it looks like mine no longer work and I don't have a clue if I can still buy them. These were lovely boxes and have stood the test of time but the wiring set up is different to the newer type so make just a camera swap impossible. The one that is up at the moment was stripped out of the old wiring and replaced with my spare camera from the Aldi box....I was going to swiftly swap the whole box over whilst I brought it inside to fit the new camera. It would have been ok if the bulb worked and that way I'd have a box with camera in place if they decided to start a nest in the meantime.....but the plan has failed for the sake of a tiny bulb... To make matters worse I've put the tiny thing down somewhere and can't find it

Oh the perils of bird box watching Sammi, all three of mine have been playing up the last few days think there might be a change required for next season on my main box as it's been out in the elements for many years now, unless it's the weather of course, cannot do anything about it if they pack up so will have to wait and see. Hope you get some material soon

Thanks Kathy....well if the commotion that was going on in the garden today is anything to go by then, if I were a betting lady, I would put money on the nesting starting tomorrow. At first I thought there was a cat about and they were alarm calls but no..it was a pair of bluetits cavorting in the bushes. It happened twice that I know of and each time there was a merry dance amongst the bushes. So lovely to watch....I tried to get a good pic of them but they were so fast I'm not sure if I ever got two in the same shot. This was near the patio box ....so we'll see what happens.

Another cruel twist in all this.....we hastily put up a spare nest box on the side of the house last year after the nesting season had ended I seem to remember....at the time the intention was to give the site a bit of shading as it doesn't face in a particularly good direction. Well with one thing and another we didn't get around to doing anything to improve the site and decided yesterday it was best to take it down ........well low and behold in the bottom there are a few bits of dried material that look remarkably like the start of a nest....so the box was hastily reinstalled. So I'll have to try to watch from a distance to see if we have residents there.

Oh Sammi these little birds certainly keep us on our toes. Beautiful photos by the way. Looks like you might have a choice of nests. I didn’t manage to get my light sorted so may be a new camera/box for me next year . Do let us know how all of yours work out. Sue
