Had another longer visit this morning so creating a thread in case it should progress further. I will post a little video later. Matt please tell me if I am taking up too much data capacity with my films, if so I will delete don't want to spoil it for everyone else when the season really gets going!

Kathy your images don't take up any of our capacity here if they are posted on another site (postimages), so no need to worry!

Thanks Matt I will keep it to a minimum because I do it from Youtube, but pics are from the other you suggested. Paul, As said earlier had another longer visit today about 2 mins in the box. I cannot be sure because my indoor amp is poor but I think I heard the bird calling or chattering to one outside. Couldn't go and look of course cos it was pre-recorded. Do they tap the box at all? The call which came from the inside was close to a sharp but gentle wow wow sound ,it had it's head out of view in the hole. Is it wishful thinking or have I heard something else, trying not to get my hopes up here! I am going to ask hubby if he could direct one of our outside CCTV camera's from the front drive up to the box if it has the range. Benn could you help with regards to sound effects!!!

Hopefully Benn can help you Kathy, However still very promising My purple box at moment aka "tree box" is getting a ridiculous amount of views by a pair blue tits. Which happens to have not my best camera in Well camera is still good paired with the led just old now and needs updating really not as sharp/HD looking. Male and female sparrow back in the sparrow box both seem to be fine with the led lightening female still roosting every night handykam box and side box still have roosting blue tits aswell. Fingers crossed we should have an earlier start this year, If we don't get these cold snaps we did last year in March. I don't have much hope for my starling box this year with only just being placed however if things don't get going until mid march for them never say never I suppose. I do hope you get a starling nest this year though Kathy so I will keep my eyes peeled for your postings over the coming weeks! Hopefully beechnut finds us soon too, I know he doesn't come back on the forum until the season really starts which by then it will be shut so hopefully he finds us alright. Sorry for totally overtaken your thread with my little update and stuff dont shut up once I start

Yes, Paul hopefully Benn can tell me whether I was imagining it but it is difficult to explain to anyone a sound you hear isn't it?
I have high hopes for the Purple Box being in a tree is a more natural site I think so fingers crossed it will produce a nest for you and us in the coming weeks. I too hope Beechnut finds us as he usually gives us a Grt Tit nest along with Steffen doesn't he. By the way what will happen when the original site closes as there will not be a google link for any newcomers searching for a bird site like this one. i expect this has to be financed doesn't it if we go in this direction next year?
Please don't worry about my thread I appreciate anyone speaking to me!

I think John (Malcolm's son) said he will link our new forum on the official website, Its my understanding its only the forum that is being deleted the website itself is staying. I think he said he will list us on the website once the old one is deleted, I have seen a link for our new forum as been put under the announcement which is great but when the forum closes I believe it will be linked on the official site.

Hi All Managed to capture this little piece of film of my Starling in the box the other day. Couldn't hear the noise it was making on screen here but definitely talking to some other bird outside through the nest hole. I'm not sure if it is searching for food in particular although it did pick something up from the corner, what does anyone think? Meantime I'm waiting patiently to see if anything develops in the coming weeks. The ' long thing' on the floor is not a septimus it was its calling card. When I first switched on my spirits lifted as I thought it was a twig! I was soon proved wrong.

Oh yes, he is certainly showing a lot of interest in your box, in and out like a yo-yo! He may be describing the lovely layout of the box & how he promises to decorate it - if she will be his mate. Diane

Diane & Paul you have a lot of faith in me getting a nest haven't you? I know there is a lot happening here but I feel it will end up being a BT I'll be watching as the pair have been in and out again this morning! However it would make a refreshing change. Funny Box 2 not getting any viewings yet.

Oh that is nice Paul a Junior member wish I could say I was! See how things go over the weekend (BIG GARDEN BIRD WATCH DAY) might have more to report. Any visits to your Starling box yet? The interweb says they don't nest till about March so we both have lots of time before we fall to our knees in disappointment. Wish we could send good vibes out to all members boxes cos I feel awful having all this to say. Have a good weekend all. cheer

Quite right Paul it's not about who gets the first nest, although you have got a pretty good track record. Had no visits yesterday at all very windy and cold. However, had a Starling visit this morning already. Perhaps it's because I have started to put out dried mealies hoping it will increase my chances. Think it was same bird same behaviour. How's it going with your boxes see you are changing camera in purple box! P.S Make that two Starling visits!!!!

Brilliant Kathy Really hope its your year for the starling nest Yes managed to swap the cameras over before in purple box had to wait for the blue tits to stop visiting the box then do a quick swap They both have been visiting it alot this morning along with one of my side boxes so all looking good so far weather warning for snow on Wednesday though and judging by the weather its going be bitterly cold for most of uk for the coming weeks so hopefully its not another late year like last year due to the weather

Oh you never know Paul they sometimes get it wrong but we are due some I think. Looks like you have been very furtive today swapping things over. It's really amazing that they accept our camera intrusions so easily, the worst I have had is a very nasty peck to the lens no damage, expect they are made of tough material but those sharp beaks proper little weapons aren't they?

Same here Kathy, Just the odd peck but no harm done, One of my female roosters at moment as a good peck of the led lightning some nights when she comes in. Because the led light turns itself off when goes dusk by the sensor but she comes in around 5 mins or so before it goes off and 9 out 10 times she will just go asleep but sometimes she jumps up and hangs off it with her little feet and pecks it. Always funny to watch her maybe some nights she just as a lovers tiff with the other half and comes in and takes it out on my poor led light.

Sounds promising Kathy two visits in one day. Nothing happening here for me yet perhaps it's because my gear needs updating .

I'm pleased you managed to swap your camera yesterday Paul, so hopefully you're all set & ready now with all your boxes covered for new or old tenants!
Yes Kathy, it's bitterly cold again today here, like you, I think we're definitely going to get some snow this week, as we have had sleet already this morning. Diane

Hi My garden backs on to fields and I have a Blue Tit box on my garage and a starling under the eaves of my house. Only the blue tit box has a camera as I have no power to the house so the camera is A wireless one so reception is not as good as it could be Perhaps next year I will take a look at what I could do to improve it.

OG Yes, they aren't too reliable are they the wireless ones, I have one in my Starling box and picture breaks up often! but as you say if you have no power not much else you can do without digging the garden and putting a wired cable in. Even the equipment can be expensive to get anything good but all on here will say you can usually find something to suit your budget. Do you have a monitor or view through T.V?

Just replied to OG and find that I have had 7 visits this morning to my Starling Box, looks like it might be good news if visits are increasing - what do you all think; am I correct in my thinking? I can definitely hear the bird calling but it is very low. Don't dare get my hopes up too high. Does anyone know if the female will go in with the male like Blue Tits do I am waiting to see this?
