Well another day of material out, then material in - about the same amount in there this evening as the last pic I posted. However, tonight she is roosting in there for the first time!

Roosting's got to be a good sign, hasn't it? It's all sounding very promising I'd say.

Funny old day today - she roosted overnight last night, left this morning and didn't return all day, until coming back to roost again.. You can see in the pic there is less material in there now than there was a few days ago. It was quite windy today, and I have noticed in the pas they are not too keen on that.

Do you think that concrete box might be on the cool side compared to a wooden one? Just wondering if the interior temp has any effect on their decisions.

Not sure - it is a very insulated concrete made with perlite as the aggregate, so shouldn't be too bad. My theory has always been that they base timings on food source availability, and around my garden they mainly seem to feed in the nearby oak trees which are later into leaf than some other trees. All speculation, of course, but the actual timing is pretty much the same as previous years (mid April) with the only weird thing this year being that she started so early (mid March!). We will see!

All sounds highly plausible. Really crossing fingers for you for a good outcome!

Fingers crossed for you. I must admit, I did wonder about the temperature of your box, but as you say it's well insulated so shouldn't be a problem 🤷

I don’t think the concrete box has anything to do with it Matt. My ‘concrete’ box was my ‘lucky’ box and my son and I have had nests in them for years. They always chose these over my wooden boxes. They are said to be thermally better as temperature remains pretty static throughout. Wish I could have brought mine with me to the flat but it was way too heavy for where I need to hang it, and as I could only have one on my balcony I wanted one with a camera in it (my concrete one could not be utilised in the way you have wonderfully made yours). I truly believe in them and wish you the luck I had with them Matt. Sue

Looks ace Matt, I spy tennis ball fluff! I put my Wimbledon ball on the grass for Judith and she has been using it. I am wondering when the first egg will come she has been lining the nest for days now, could it be tomorrow?

I think you might be right Karen! Don't think it is from our garden tho. Normally at this time of year I put some dog fluff out from our old collie, but sadly this year I can't. We do have another dog, but she is a very short-haired Greek hare hound so not much fluff to be combed out!

Every time I clipped Sofi I would bag it up so fortunately we have a number of bags to go at. Eggs surly will come soon, my two are seemingly at the same stage as yours Matt just waiting for the eggs. I do see them in the tree everyday around same time same branch doing the business

Think there maybe something in there.... 1918 today? Brilliant, thanks - well spotted! Must admit I haven't watched much today as just back from weekend with the family. Grabbed a still - I think it is more than a "maybe"!
