Yep, great to see they survived the squirrel investigation. But another one could happen any time so I’m not taking things for granted! Similar feeding scenes today … chicks a tiny bit bigger but otherwise another day of busy parenting.

BT nest build day 8 - she seemed to stop work about lunchtime today... hasn't been back in the box since. Is she having a nap in this (rather long) video? She sits there for about 2mins with her right eye blinking - could even be exactly 40 winks!

Day 9 - she's higher up the nest box now with all the material in there - so suddenly looking a lot larger on camera

She's doing a good job Pete! It is surprising just how deep the nest is - you'll see it when you clear it out at the end of the season. At least a couple of inches, something to bear in mind when adjusting focus of the camera before nesting (raspberry pi camera is particularly finicky with focus).

Wonderful pics of the robin family. I do hope the nest survives. They seem open to all sorts of attack dont they with the shallow nests. You look like you are in for an interesting season with the bluetits too.

Yes I'm really hoping I made the right choice of focus when I set the camera up last year. I seem to recall standing a large box of matches up in the bottom of the box as something to focus on! So far I actually think the image has improved a fair bit with the nest lifting the birds up off the box floor. Hopefully she's not thinking of putting much more material on top of what's there otherwise all we'll see is a huge blurred BT face! Male's still feeding her from time to time.

A clip from yesterday of the robin chicks being fed, one of them offering up a sizeable poop for collection, and later a distinctly visible leg or two sticking out as the chicks move about. If only I had a camera inside the box!
And a similar clip from today - a bit more noisy with each passing day!

So windy today the robin trail cam got triggered loads - SD card filled up mid-afternoon and so camera stopped recording Anyway, much the same as yesterday apart from the chicks looking bigger. Still four of them.

just found this clip from yesterday morning - BT female sound asleep in her near-complete nest - male clearly wondering if she's awake yet, and ends up waking her up by sitting on her

One of the robin parents managed to knock my DIY close-up lens off the trail cam early this morning, and then the battery ran out later on. So only one non-blurred and one blurred screenshot worth looking at. The chicks are looking a lot bigger! As I retrieved the camera to sort it out this afternoon, the four chicks were all very visible with beaks resting on the edge of the nest. The blurry pic below shows how big they're looking now when they leap up to demand food.

Day 13 of BT nest build. Feathers coming in and going out, etc. etc. Feels as if she's stalling for time now, waiting for this chilly spell to improve. Bit concerned it's going to get even colder over the weekend! There was one fleeting peek into the box by our old friend the GT earlier this afternoon, but nothing more A condensed 3 mins of to-ing and fo-ing from earlier today:

BT nest build day 14 - it feels less like a 'build' now and more like a 'faff/fiddle' She's coming in during the early mornings and adding a feather or two, a bit of moss, or some small other thing, then spending a lot of time wriggling and diving down into the depths sorting out something or other. I think I'm correct to say that ultimately she'll make a more defined cup where she'll lay the eggs, but that still seems a way off yet. Looks very very cosy in there, though - these pics are from points across the day, ending in a pic of her just falling asleep at roosting time. The clock on the camera pic is still an hour behind - still haven't worked out what I'm supposed to do to make it pick up BST instead of GMT....probably just need to switch it off and on again.

11 day old robin chicks are pretty enormous when they stand up in the nest! Lots of stretching, wing flapping, and the odd leg/foot appearing now and again. They're making a big old racket every time the parent arrives with food. Dangerous time as it attracts unwanted attention - e.g. a passing cat
