Perhaps the GT will break their spirit and win. Time will tell Pete. I have 3 BTs that visit daily and I am not sure if its 1 male plus 2 females or the other way around, there is lots of chasing in the trees but not sure if its flirting behaviour or hostile. The male also does his cute floaty flight between the trees showing off to the ladies or lady. Just love watching them

Nestbox camera gone offline and I can't get it back online! Arrgh. A few times over the past weeks I've seen the BTs fly up into the space where the camera is fixed and the microphone picks up sounds of pecking. Wondering if they've pecked the wifi antenna and damaged it. Or something worse happened to the internal electronics. Trying to decide on a good time to go through all the steps of resetting the camera completely - but it's a bit tricky when it's halfway up a tree! It's been rock solid for a whole year and suddenly decides to play up just when things are starting to get interesting.

Oh no Pete, I hope you can sort it, typical isnt it, I have had the same thing happen to me right at the critical moment and there was no way to fix it as the box had a nest and chicks! Can you put another box up that is similar temporarily in place of that one, while you take the other down?

I only have the one box. The last resort would be to order a complete identical new one with new camera and everything and do a straight swap. Depending on delivery times obviously It’d be a poo-free solution if nothing else. I’ll wait to see whether a full reset does anything first before biting the bullet.

Out of curiosity what sort of set up do you have pete? I hope you dont need to resort to getting another but in a way its always good to have a back up. Good luck hope you get it fixed without much bother.

Karen I’ve got the green feathers deluxe Wi-Fi camera kit (nest box included) with led lamp. The led lamp has never really been strong enough to flip the camera into daylight mode on it’s own….it seems to need a bit of help from the daylight coming through the entrance hole. This means that at this time of year the camera is clicking back and forth between daylight and infrared a lot, especially if a bird perches at the entrance hole indecisively: I’m starting to think the clicking sound (which is quite loud) is causing the BTs to be curious as to what’s up in the roof space where the noise comes from, so hence they fly up to where the camera is fixed to peck about and investigate! I wonder whether the clicking noise is also slightly freaking them out, especially the more cautious female BTs, as they get greeted with it whenever they arrive and block the daylight.
The camera’s little wifi antenna is quite vulnerable and also with the box being quite far from the house the wifi signal isn’t particularly strong so the whole setup is a bit fragile!

Yeah I wonder if that is what is making them peck up there, they may think its another bird pecking somewhere, although my bts peck around in the roof area and there is no sounds. I thought about getting the wifi set up but decided to go for wired in the end. Im sure it wont put them off, they seem keen to keep visiting and you have a rooster.

Green Feathers support now in contact. Facing the prospect of sending camera back for technical investigations. Just looked at the wired version of the same camera and kind of thinking it's a much more sensible option - although for me it would involve drilling a hole in my wall (!), unless I tried using a powerline adapter (internet down the mains circuit).

Greenfeathers will likely replace the camera for you Pete, Its probably best to get it sent back during this month, Before we head into February and March when visits really picked up. Hope you get it started soon

Thanks Paul- they do seem very good on their support and there’s a guarantee too so hopefully it won’t be too painful.

Replaced my wifi access point over the weekend - things more stable but camera footage seems a bit glitchy compared to a few weeks ago before the problems started. Planning to send back to green feathers if it all still looks dodgy after today. BT/GT standoffs happening a fair bit this morning in the vicinity of the box. I've gone crazy and ordered a side-view box with wired IP camera from gardennature - planning to put this up on the side of the house with a 25mm hole plate, in the hope it'll give the BTs another option (and also give me some stable pics!) Busy morning all round

I look forward to seeing your side view box in situ pete, hope it solves the bts and gts scrapping!

Sounds like you've got the bug pretty bad Pete! Looking forward to the pics, and with any luck the BTs and GTs will work things out and you get a nest in each.

Interesting visitor seen yesterday clinging on to the box entrance with it's beak just having a good old stare into the interior We're plagued with Ring-necked parakeets round here - a whole load of them congregate in some nearby trees each morning and evening. As soon as this one made its way towards the box the GT + BTs hurried back to the vicinity, hopping about looking very agitated and making lots of alarm calls. At least it shows they feel they have a claim to it! I've been trying to find a moment to sort out my dodgy camera - I cleaned all the power supply connections and found one of them to be somewhat clogged with moisture, which can't have been helping. Dried it out, reconnected everything, and at first the camera seemed to be more stable. But alas it fell over in a big heap again mid-morning today.... something still not right! My replacement cam has arrived, as has my side-view box with IP cam. Trying to decide where to put it up. Does anyone know if it's a bad idea to have two boxes quite close to each other - e.g. in the same tree, or thereabouts? I'd be putting a 25mm plate on the new one wherever it ends up, so it'd be a BT-only exclusive.

Morning Pete, are you in the London area as whenever I go to London the parks are full of the Parakeets, its cool to see them but I guess living with them will be a different thing. Regarding the new box position, mine are relatively close to each other as my garden isnt huge, mine are around 10 to 12 feet apart at different heights, thing is as Paul always says it is giving the birds more options. It will be interesting to see what the BTS think to it and if they will leave the GTS alone, look forward to seeing it up and in action.

South West London close to Richmond Park… parakeets have been on the rise here for the last 20 years at least. It’s not their fault they’re flourishing but they change the sound of the birdsong around the place and not for the better … just a constant loud squawking! I think they’re officially now classed as a pest here. They also monopolise the feeders when they visit. Not a fan, I have to admit.
Thanks for the tips on nest box positioning. I don’t have too many options so if the new box went in the same tree it’d only be about 6ft away from the existing one at most. I’ll have to have a think!

Oh thats a lovely area, I go to Wimbledon nearly every year and love visiting Kew gardens also, I wonder how they came to be? Were they released as pets or escaped I wonder. yeah Im sure it will be fine, it ups the chances of a nest for you anyway!

Anyone else agree it’s been quite a quiet week? - BT/GT garden activity seems more subdued compared to the first half of January. It’s been a lot colder, so I think that’s maybe had an effect. Still have my faithful GT rooster, arriving & leaving like clockwork. Suspect it’s a male as the belly stripe goes all the way to the legs? New box *still* not up yet, due to a mixture of work commitments and idle procrastination. Hoping to fix that soon.

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts on here and was after some advice regarding camera set ups. I currently have a green feathers wireless camera but the images are not very good. You all seem to have amazing images on yours. I would like to view on a television and could run a cable if necessary. Any advice would be most welcome. I have already had a pair of bt in and out of my box Linda

Definitely quiet for me Pete over the last week or 10 days - just a few very fleeting visits. I have found in the few years I have been doing it that visits tend to pick up a lot in Feb, then go quiet again (I think they choose in Feb), then they come back and start building (or not!!).

If your tv doesnt have them then you can get an adapter, if you wanted to record your footage then you can plug it into a laptop instead via a video capture device also available from green feathers, I do this if I am lucky enough to get a nest. Goodluck with it all.

Goodluck with it all. Hi Linda - I just replied to your original question in your 'Camera' thread. I think the fact you have the wireless camera means you won't be able to connect a lead between it and your TV directly - the wireless camera just has a power connector, but sends its pictures over wifi from a little antenna that sticks out of the top of its case (sends them to your wifi router, etc.). But as I said in my other reply just now, this doesn't mean it's impossible to view the wireless camera's pictures on a TV, it's just a bit of a technical faff to set up.

Thank you I intend to buy a new set up. I have looked at the new 4k camera from green feathers but you don’t get audio has anyone tried this one yet. Anyone able to say if they think wired or wireless give the best images
