Baby from the last brood is STILL coming into the box to roost with mum while she's incubating these eggs, I have never seen this happen before, Mum doesn't mind at all she is so loving to it still. Here is a picture now I have put arrows on it to make it easier with it being black and white but mum is sat on the eggs asleep and baby is at the side of her. Its been 27c outside today so baby 100% isn't coming due bad weather, I guess it just doesn't know when to leave home Cute to witness though and a total first for me to have a baby come back nightly with its mum and now still doing it during incubation of a new brood.

Great image Paul. I wonder how much of this goes on in other sparrow nests. Certainly a mummy's boy or girl😂

It is indeed that Sammi! You don't see it all day just Mum and Dad, Then when dusk comes straight in the box with Mum! It is cute to watch and a total first for me within the 4 years of having them nesting.

I'm having to laugh about this baby bird Paul who only goes in your nestbox for the night - possibly frightened of the dark & wants his mum to protect him/her? Totally understandable, as I'm scared of spiders with big, hairy legs full stop & the only reason I haven't slept in our garage for these past red hot temps at night, is because I know the spiders are out at night & they may decide to crawl all over me!

Paul, that is so amazing. Never heard of it happening ever - brilliant for you to witness. Wonder how rare it is, would be great to know wouldn’t it. Just hope it’s gentle when the babies hatch. Diane, you and me both scared of those horrid hairy things, I asked hubby to put in a ceiling fan many years ago as don’t like my windows open at night for the same reason. Mind you our spiders are nothing compared to the ones we used to get in Far East when hubby was in services 🕷 - now they were frightening! 😱 Sue

Handykam box as got a rooster again, Haven't had a rooster in this box since our male stopped roosting during end of March. I am guessing its because its been rain rain rain and more rain for 2 days now here in Liverpool, Didn't expect see a rooster back during June to be honest first for me. Normally start getting them back end of August. Here's a picture anyway the mess in the box is from when it was roosting earlier in the year. Interesting reading this Paul, Boulder continues to roost in the tree box also, he has only missed the odd night when it has been boiling hot. He has been roosting in there now since nesting season.

Yes Matt, Sparrows really keep the season going and yes this will be the last brood now. The third brood of sparrows fledged yesterday morning (when I turned camera on they was gone) they picked a good day was 33c yesterday. This is a small video I got of them a few days before they fledged, I haven't been very active during this last brood of sparrows due to a death in the family etc. I probably won't be on here much until Roosters start to appear now, On behalf of me and matt thank you everyone for making the new forum a success this year. I enjoy reading all your posts and seeing all your activity and broods, All have an AMAZING summer and take care of yourself. I will leave you with the last video of my third brood of sparrows.

My sincere condolences Paul in respect of the death in your family. I would also like to thank you & Matt for setting up & running this new forum so successfully & no doubt when you post on here again when roosters settle in one of your boxes overnight - I'll spot you have posted & will answer you. I check into the web site everyday, but don't bother logging in unless I see a new posting.
Have a great Summer yourself & take it easy - if that's possible with you!

I think a new pair of sparrows are trying to overtake the sparrow box for next year today, I went in the front garden this morning and a male sparrow was on top of the box calling and a female was sitting on the line. I went inside turned camera on and female came into box and was checking it all over along with the male. So I think this is a new pair turning to take ownership of the box for next years brood.

Its pretty normal for the sparrows to be honest Sue, They usually start nest building in February, I am guessing the female will start roosting again next month and nest building will start in feb again.
Blue tit on the other hand is strange one for me, She is still roosting every night no fresh material brought in but plenty daytime visits nest wriggles and stuff.
