Handykam box as got a rooster again, Haven't had a rooster in this box since our male stopped roosting during end of March. I am guessing its because its been rain rain rain and more rain for 2 days now here in Liverpool, Didn't expect see a rooster back during June to be honest first for me. Normally start getting them back end of August. Here's a picture anyway the mess in the box is from when it was roosting earlier in the year.

It's a very sensible little bird, remembering that he/she can always find shelter in one of your boxes & it's nice, cozy & dry for a sleepover. Funny weather for June isn't it - even when it's dry, temps go up to 18 degrees then back down to 13 the day after, up & down like a yo-yo!

It makes so much sense to shelter from this weather. If I get chance I must check my boxes. Who knows what goes on ? It always surprises me why they all don't just pile back in and keep warm.

our BT came in last night after 4 nights of no show, but no sign of it tonight. Rained all day yesterday but not today. Watching Springwatch our cat surprised us by getting close to tv when they were showing nests. Haven't seen any birds taking shelter in other boxes.

Pete's will probably leave after these I think, Only around a week left before fledgling. With it still being June though I think she maybe go for a 3rd brood so could end up with 1 more brood yet we will see

All 4 sparrows fledge this morning, Female is back already cleaning out the poo and fluffing up the nest. I think a 3rd brood for me is on the cards, We will see over the coming days.
Little video of 2 small clips I got of them yesterday, I had idea they would be gone this morning. Keep you posted if she starts laying again, So far it looks likely.

Thank you Sammi, Been fresh material coming in now so it looks likely for a 3rd brood. Something that isn't related to my bird boxes, In Costco at the moment you can get 12.6KG sacks of sunflower hearts for just £11.49 works out less than £1 a KG. As you can see from the picture below I stocked up at this price sunflower hearts are the most popular seed in my garden with all the birds, I normally pay £22.99 for 20KG online which is a bargain compared to bird company prices, But with this deal I am getting just over 25KG in two sacks for £22.98 so thought I'd share incase anyone viewing as a Costco local.

Need to be careful how you store it Paul. Last year I bought a 30kg bag but the company delivered 60kg and could not be bothered to come back for the other 30kg. One bag spoiled. It started to go mouldy and attracted a lot of mice in my shed. I will only buy 25kg at a time now. I empty it into a large plastic container but the mice gnawed away at the lid to gain ingress. I found a dead one in it the other day.
Unfortunately my nearest Costco is 14 miles away.

That's interesting, I've never had a problem with that happening Benn, I always buy few sacks at a time during Summer, I go through 25kg every 2 weeks at the moment. Baby birds eating me out of house and home All feeders need filling daily Summer months always busy for my feeders, Between June, July, August, September I go through around 200KG of sunflower hearts Then Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May I only go through about around 150KG -200KG all them months, So Summer months is always double for me. Strange aswell because people think the birds don't need feeding during summer, I go through double the food during summer here. So all them sacks will only last me until sometime during August, They won't have time to spoil. During Autumn / Winter I do only buy sack at time because 20KG will last me the full month or just abit over a month during Autumn / Winter.

Thanks for the info Paul. I'm afraid our storage space is limited to one sack at a time. I'll look to see if we have a Costco nearby though.

How sweet Paul. I wonder why more youngsters don't take advantage of the shelter especially in the bad weather

Yes, The third brood in this box is well underway, Females laid 3 eggs so far! I think she will lay her final egg tomorrow to complete the clutch. This brood will be her last, It will take me until the very end of July / first week of August for my season to be "over" now though, Sparrows really do pull through for me each year. Video below and picture.
