This I know is a topic close to every nature loving person in the world. My husband and I are lucky as we live a few minutes walk from the beach. We have been doing mini beach cleans for a long time. Just picking up the plastic as we potter across the beach and it is amazing just how much can be cleared in this way. I am now well and truly addicted to the activity and use a smartphone app called Tidal Revival that helps you log the type of plastics found and the amount. It's a free app available for iPhones and android phones too. If you have a minute some time it is worth downloading and see what you think. The app was only launched at the end of last summer and so is in its infancy. It can be used anywhere in the world. It was developed mainly for beaches but green spaces now are being included because as we all know plastic waste can find its way into our rivers, seas and oceans no matter where it starts off from. Local businesses get on board by sponsoring the app and offering discounts to its users. It's a great idea I think. Each piece of plastic cleared earns you one point and then if you like you can exchange your points for discounts. Would love you to try it out and share if you find it useful. It's aim really is to get as many people as possible clearing plastic out of our environment. Will try to upload some pics when I learn how.

I agree Paul.......but if we all do a bit....clear plastic that the sea has given us the chance to claim back....then we will make a small difference. Every bit we get back is one bit that won't end up harming our wildlife.

Well done for doing that Sammi protecting the environment from this disgusting waste. We all need to look at what we are using and throwing away. When out driving I am horrified at the litter on the verges too. I saw on Dragons Den last week an entreprenur (how do you spell that?) making furniture out of plastic waste. The dragons invested, good on them hope it does well for the chap! Like your Robin by the way

Thanks Paul and Blueeyedchick for the likes for the Robin. Not the one in my garden sadly( I've got one in training though but it's early days) This one poses for anyone at Trebah Garden. If you are ever in Cornwall the Gardens are beautiful and the Robin follows you around looking to photobomb your pics. cheer Loving the new emoticons but not sure when I could use some of them If you do get the chance check out Tidal Revival. It's on Facebook,Instagram and Twitter. Please give it a go

There's a couple of other things which contribute to polluting our oceans & killing fish etc. frightening & killing birds & animals on land, namely chinese lanterns & balloons being released into the air.
It annoys me so much when people constantly do this whether it's in memory of someone or a celebration - in my opinion they should be banned completely! Diane

Hi Diane, Yes I agree but I think there is greater education now and hopefully we can save our beautiful planet. If everyone gets on board then I think there is a chance. The government would be far better used banning these things than banging on about B....t all the time.

This is just a fraction of the plastic waste found on our local beach, which is only a tiny beach.

Yes, it's dreadful ??? - our local news shows volunteers clearing beaches, woodland & grass verges all over the County. We can honestly say that we never throw litter of any kind, anywhere.

??? Our beach looks clean at first glance but usually these bits are caught up in the seaweed. Sometimes we find odd things like plastic clothes pegs....you have to wonder how they got there.. .but then down here nowhere is too far from the sea when the gales blow. :-[ On a good note I managed to upload a picture cheer
