Thanks Paul and Ann. Well with the bad weather Jack wasn't around for a couple of days but the bluetits were so I thought it was sorted. But today and yesterday we've had visits from both. The bluetits are definitely in the lead today with double visits but poor old Jack doesn't seem to be having much luck and just pops in on his own.

Well it looks like Jack has decided this box is his. Still no sign of a lady though inside the box.

The male normally brings some material in as his way of attracting a female Sammi, If a female doesn't take to the box he will move on and find another nest site. Thats what happens here over the years anyway, Fingers crossed he gets a female in and she approves! When you see the female bird bringing in material you know its been picked, Sadly my sparrows aren't around this year after 5 years which is sad, I think something must of happened to them over autumn and winter.

Thanks Paul, we are all clutching at straws and hoping so much for a nest. He doesn't seem to be having much luck with the ladies. He made me smile though as he seemed to be spending so much time and effort deciding where exactly to position that little twig. Bless him I do hope your sparrows reappear soon. The bluetits seem to have spent the day dithering between your side view box and the box they used last year which I have repositioned.

The females can just come out of no where and start Sammi, If she visits and approves she will start straight away no waiting about like a blue tit. So every chance he will get a female, I hope he does for you anyway! The sparrows are great little birds to watch and give you more than 1 broods!

This is the position of my fence boxes. The apex one is the clematis box but sadly my lovely clematis had to be severely pruned so we could fix the fence. The side view box is positioned where the apex box they nested in last year was. They seem to be visiting the apex box more but I think the jury is still out. I just hope they choose one I must clean my windows at some point

II think the decision has been made. The bluetits have gone for the identical box to the one that the sparrows have chosen but on the other side of the house. Looks to me like she is on fast forward There has been no rooster in the patio box for 2 nights so I imagine she has taken the hint.

Brilliant Sammi! Is that 3 or 4 nests that have started today across the forum? I don't think my nests count yet as there hasn't been anything brought into the bluetits box and the sparrow male still is just hopefully pushing around a couple of bits I am hoping tomorrow will see more action.

Don't worry Matt. I have to study that dark patch constantly. Once I thought there was a rooster. I think it's just markings in the wood or a damp patch? The whole box looks messy as we had a few snails in over winter. It was due to have a spring clean but the birds got in there first It is a box without an extra light too I'm hoping today sees some nesting stuff.

Sammi, lovely clip & I'll keep everything crossed for you that both your nest boxes are used. It would be really great if the sparrows did nest in that box, as up until now it's only been Paul who had one - I really loved the clips & news he put on about them. I'm so sorry Paul that as of yet there's no sign of your two regular sparrows, that's very upsetting for you & us. Lots of activity in our garden today by sparrows who do nest in our eaves every year, blackbirds diving in and out of the ivy & the robin did still make a pig of itself on the fat balls. Yesterday, after managing to do a bit of weeding & digging up about 5 worms, I put them in a shallow dish near the fat balls, went & sat down & about 5 minutes later the robin came out of the Red Robin bush & after inspecting the dish sitting on the rim - it proceeded to take the first one straight back into the bush. After about one minute it took another one & over about 6 minutes the lot was gone! I don't know whether it's a female or a male but it does have a red breast. Going out this afternoon to do more weeding & worm collecting.
