Well!!! Hello everyone!
For those that don't know me, I was on the Bigg bird forum since 2013 with no luck with any nests at my current house. I came close but they never stayed.
We are hoping to move to new house soon...still at pre-contract stage. But getting closer to the end.
So 2019 is a new forum, a new house, and hopefully a new chance of a little nest if we get moved in time. Fingers crossed.
We took all three boxes down last weekend as we were getting alot of interest in our Aldi box (would you believe it!!!)
I didn't want to take the chance that a nest would begin and I'd be stressed then with the impending house move as I'd hate to leave any boxes behind.
So, I feel like a fraud returning to the new forum having never had a nest...but I do love reading all your posts.
Best of luck everyone with the new nesting year.

So pleased the move is going well...is it the house you wanted? Looking forward to hearing about the boxes when you've got them in place. My Aldi box is still in bits but the camera is in an old Boxwatch box so who knows?

Hi everyone, Great to see the buzz of activity on the site again. Just wonderful!!! I wish with all my heart that this year I was going to join you, but alas it is not to be.
My news - unfortunately, is not good news. :-(
The dream house that we have been waiting on since last October has fallen through...it was a very, long drawn out process, and I suppose we should have noticed something was a-miss when the contracts never came to fruition. The chap selling appeared to be putting unnecessary obstacles in the way and not getting back to us towards the end...5 months we wasted, building our hopes and dreams and in one phone call. Bam! It was all over.
We put our family house up for sale for this venture!!! We are very angry, and upset, and a whole range of emotions, but it can't be helped.
So we are in a disastrous situation now. The buyers to our home naturally want to move in to our house asap, but we have no-where to go....so we will have to move somewhere temporarily and put all our items in storage.
So, needless to say, I will have no birdboxes up this year....in fact, the birds are probably in a better situation than my family and I are this year!!!
I wish we could live in a trunk of a tree!
Anyway, I just want to wish you all the very, very best this bird boxing year, and I'll enjoy looking in at your successes. I hope that I will eventually be able to join in at some point this century!!!!

Really sorry to hear that GBH My heart goes out for you, I hope you find a new place and settle in. How disgusting of someone to mess you about like that to the point of you selling your family home then the deal being pulled on you! Hope everything sorts itself out for you soon.

Oh GBH, this is an awful situation. I so feel for you, moving house is so stressful even when it goes smoothly. Why these things take so long with all the modern technology now one will never know. It is extremely upsetting to know someone has been just messing you about for so long. I do hope you eventually find your dream home and it all works out well for you In the mean time big hugs . Sue

I'm sorry too GBH to read your news, but I'm assuming that you have decided to move into temporary accomodation by choice? I was a Solicitors book-keeper all my working life, so of course I know that nothing is safe until Contracts are signed to buy & sell. You possibly didn't want to do to your buyer the same thing that was done to you, so you still signed to sell?

Hi all, Thanks...yes, what a mess eh!!! ha,ha!!! Yorkshirelass, you are absolutely correct. We could have cancelled everything when we heard the bad news and just pulled out on both sales and that would be that. But we continued on with the contracts on the sale of our own home as we did not want to lose our buyers and end up ruining their hopes & dreams too - a young couple with a baby on the way we were told. Yikes!!! We simply couldn't do that to them. We thought long and hard on it, and after going through the trouble of putting our house up for sale, and going through the whole process, we knew we still wanted to move regardless....we knew we might end up temporarily without a home ourselves, but we know we'll be at an advantage of being able to move quickly when the time comes....at least on the next house we'll be ready. Our only difficulty at the minute is that there doesn't seem to be anything available for rent? Ah, it'll all work out I'm sure. We are currently looking at another house at the moment. Not the same character at all as the other house by any means nor does it have the 3 acres of land - nothing will match that lovely house (but it was too good to be true, eh!!!) This house we are looking at is very different again...much more modern, but we like it, as nothing needs to be done at all inside which is a real bonus....and it has a few features that the other house didn't have. It is still out in the countryside, right across the road from a forest, so lots of wildlife to see, and has just enough room in the back garden to have a glasshouse, some raised beds for veg and a few hens and maybe some bees even? We can plant some fruit trees out front and do more raised beds. So we might still be able to swing the self sufficiency bit on a smaller scale. It will certainly be a lot more manageable size wise. So we'll see what happens. Anyway folks, its a beautiful, bright sunny morning here - normally I'd be pinned to the monitor watching out for the birdies.... so I'm sure you are all doing the same. You'll all start seeing some activity in your boxes this week....I remember its always around St Patricks weekend when things start to really take off.... best of luck everything.

May I ask your name please greatbluehopeful, as the initials of it GBH sound like a crime!
It's lovely to know a person with empathy towards a buyer, as this happened a lot during my working life - it nearly happened to us too, but one of my bosses decided to buy our house, although with a price reduction! Anyway, the other boss who was a much nicer person did all the conveyancing for our sale & purchase for nothing, plus a bonus when I left that firm to move from Lancashire back to Yorkshire.
Fingers crossed that everything goes OK with this new house, it sounds really nice.

Hi GBH, good luck with the new house. It sounds lovely to me, but I know what it’s like when your heart is set on one home and then your hopes are dashed. I hope this turns out to be the right move for you and you find that pot of gold at the end of your rainbow. Things often have a way of working out. Look forward to seeing you settled at your new home with your bird box raring to go. Everything crossed for you and hoping that a new home will bring you very deserved luck with birdies as well. Sue

Hi everyone!!! Well......I knew when I logged in there would be hive of activity. Brilliant!!! Spring has sprung!!! and oh the possibilities!!! How is everyone???? I was popping in because I wanted to share with you the most wonderful wildlife artist from the Netherlands that I stumbled upon this morning online. I was looking at his paintings and thought immediately of you all, and knew you would appreciate his work. Have a look at his website here....he's truly amazing. www.elwinvanderkolk.nlAnyway, my news is, that its a full month on, and we are moving our of our family home this weekend. We are handing our keys into the estate agent on Monday morning. End of an era. That 2nd house we were hopeful to buy also fell through...would you believe it! Long story, but in the end the chap pulled out as he changed his mind and took the house off the market. So, we are onto house number 3 now, and honestly, at this stage in the game I've become so cynical!! I almost am so blazé about everything now. lol!!! We have gone 'sale agreed' on a house closer to our current home, and really suits us for a whole number of reasons....Not the lovely farmhouse we initially wanted of course, but this is certainly a lovely runner up!!! The garden is still big enough for our veg growing plans and other nature related stuff. i.e BIRDIES!!!!! In fact, its amazing how things changed in those 6 months since starting into all this, we realise that yes indeed, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that the first house fell through because our needs and expectations have changed even in those few short months. For one, our teenage kids have suddenly developed a massive social life, wanting to go here and there, so being near public transport wasn't something we considered when we first set out!!! Plus I can bus it to work or cycle if I need to....stuff like that. Our survey is on Friday and everything hangs on what he reports. So fingers crossed AGAIN!!!! Third times the charm perhaps? As I say, I won't hold my breath until I'm putting a key in the front door!!!! . Anway folks, the sun is shining, the days are getting longer and there's a real buzz in the air. Enjoy the excitement....I envy you all....hopefully, next year will be my year. Catch ye soon.

GBH how wonderful to hear from you. Good luck with your third time lucky. House buying/selling is the most stressful thing you can do -next to watching the birds of course . Seriously, I hope all goes well this time. It is strange how sometimes it is as though fates jumps in and says ‘this one isn’t for you ‘ and eventually you do find the one that is right for you at the time. Such a shame you aren’t with us in birdie terms this year but hopefully you will be in your new home and an abundant of birds for your nests next year. . That artist looks absolutely fantastic, I am going to have a better look later. Take care and hope everything goes really smoothly for you from here on in. Keep us updated and we will look forward to any news in the future. Hopefully we can put out all the banners of congratulations for you. Sue

GBH, nice of you to check in & update us with your news. So sorry that you had yet another "disaaarrrster" as Craig would say from Strictly Come Dancing! Fingers crossed for you that it IS a case of third time lucky & you can finally unpack properly for the last time, if this would be your "forever" home.
Good luck with the move & I hope you don't lose anything like I have everytime we've moved. Only little things, but still annoying 'cos I don't know what happened to: 1 fork, 1 pepper pot (which I never used anyway) some tortoiseshell hairpins - but the important stuff like garden plants in pots & frogs (in a bucket at my feet) for immediate occupation in ponds - they were fine!

Yes Matt, I have taken some frogs with me everytime we've moved - (please don't report me as I know it's illegal now! ) As I have found out later, in all the gardens we have had, our buyers have had our ponds dug out & chucked on the scrap heap within six months, meaning that most of our resident frogs had to try and find new homes. The same thing will happen here I suppose when we've both popped our clogs!
