Hope you have a good season, he must like that box by the sounds of it. I have a male rooster too, who had a massive scrap with another male as he tried to roost in one of 'his' boxes!

Hi Pete. Fights are breaking out at mine too. I only have a video feed and no audio which is a blessing as the noise during the fights is awful to hear. Now I'm monitoring earlier than I used to I'm seeing all this pre season stuff. Good luck for the spring.🤞🙂

Paul, yeah not nice to see and yes january's flown by ( scuse the pun )
Sammi, yes i'm hoping that will be the last fight that high pitch screeming is'nt nice. I think i have a female roosting in the box now after that fight she's coming in during the day and clearing out droppings.

My female BT has been clearing the droppings from the previous male rooster all morning and some of the afternoon, she's been working hard to get it cleared.

Brilliant Pete, Looks like the females this year are really looking for boxes early on, I think this is the 3rd time that females overtaken a male with forum members. I think this as also happened in my purple tree box, The was few poo's in there off first rooster, Now its all cleaned and being kept clean. Looks promising for most members so far all the activity by females, I guess having male rooster isn't all bad!

Nice clip Pete - pity that it's all down to the females to do the housework in the tit families!

Another fight, the one in the box is the female who clears the droppings every day the bird who chases her off is my rooster who i think might be a male. I find it a bit odd if it is a male that he's chasing off a female, i think its a male because his colours are a bit more vivid and markings around the side and back of the neck are stronger, and i dont see him for most of the day. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Hi Pete, things do seem odd with fights between male and female but I suspect that's what has happened in my box as the rooster is now a male I think as there are a lot of droppings. There is I think interest in another box judging by the number of visits even in these stormy times but I dont know if it's a different individual or not. Keep us posted,🙂

Hi Sammi, i thought this was a strange one simply because it looks like she's acting submissive.

I've watched again Pete and I see what you mean. This is the first year I've really monitored this early in the season but it is proving very interesting and bewildering at the same time🤔😮

Whats the box you are using now Pete? Is it still the gardenature starling box? Got a nice big base judging by your videos.

It's one of my original boxe's Paul from a company no longer trading, 'CLOSEWATCH WILDLIFE CAMERAS' infact the guy who was running that < EDIT company went on to pass his knowledge over to GREENFEATHERS, they had a news letter about him on there website. He also was one of the first to start selling nest boxes with lighting, i think 'BOXWATCH' was the other. I have two of these boxes only one in use, had these boxes for over ten years they are well wheatherd but still going strong, he used very good quality hard ceder wood, in fact i would say it is better wood than the garden nature boxes which seem a bit soft in comparison.

Visits, fights and cleaning - all going on at yours Pete. Good luck with the coming season though looks like you don’t need any luck with them fighting over your box. Sue
