Have you tried yours on the Spike semi moist food Karen? Ours LOVE it. I get a 1.3kg bag for £9.42 (cheapest online by £1 odd) this is with delivery included. www.purelypetsupplies.com/product/spikes-semi-moist-hedgehog-food-vat-free/I picked a little 500g bag up from pets at home for £5 its got a strong smell so I don't know if that is bringing more to the garden but our hogs really love it cat won't touch it aswell so win win

Was in middle of a message then server went down! Anyway back on now. I have some hedgehog food Paul but not sure what brand it is. My hubby got it online, its tiny kibble and its wiffy! They seem to enjoy it though. I have just been out in the garden and relocated the hog house, I have turned it around now and the entrance is under a bush, so will see what they think to that. Just ordered some of that food Paul so will try it on them, thanks for that.

Thanks Paul, the little one came again lastnight, it sat on the half brick I put in front of the feeding station and had a drink of water and it was the same size as that,so smaller than I initially thought. He pops in and out all through the night nibbling away and drinking, hope one night he will stay.

Five? That is excellent Paul what are you feeding them? And you Karen 🤔 I might try Natalie put down some chicken based cat food and a shallow dish of water, if you can create a hole in your boundary somehere, roughly 5inx5in to allow them to come through. Goodluck, happy hog watching!

Natalie, I feed them a mix of cat food / biscuits plus hedgehog food, I'll list them all below with the cheapest you can get them online. Firstly "Mr Johnson's hedgehog food" - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mr-Johnsons-Wild-Life-Hedgehog-Food-750g/162485309369(If you have a Wilko's near you you can pick this up in store for just £4) "Brambles crunchy biscuits" - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAMBLES-Dry-Crunchy-Biscuit-Wet-Meaty-Natural-HEDGEHOG-Wild-Animal-Feed-Food"Spikes semi moist" - www.purelypetsupplies.com/product/spikes-semi-moist-hedgehog-food-vat-free/This is my hedgehogs favourite hog food Cat Products You can give any type of cat "meat" aslong as its not in fish because it is meant to upset their stomach a little so if your buying tinned meat go for the "meat" ones this applies to both cat and dog food. "Purina ONE Sensitive Turkey And Rice Dry Cat Food"
you can get these biscuits in every supermarket asda, morrisons, pets at home everything we get a big 3KG bag because its good for our cats stomachs. The hogs LOVE these cat biscuits, They actually prefer them over the "hog biscuits" (apart from the semi moist ones) That is everything I put out for the hogs, I would say the tinned cat food, spike semi moist plus the purina sensitive biscuits are by far the favourite with mine.

Love this post, we have had hedgehogs visiting for quite a few years now. Still not managed to entice them into the hog house though. I had put food in there, but apparently they don't like their food in their homes? We did have three this year, but I've only seen one lately. I call him patch because he has quite a few patches over his back. Like you their favourite food is Spike semi moist. They are very fussy, the petshop ran out recently, so I got a bag of the dry food. They simply turn their noses up at it, the magpie ends up with it in the morning. They are now back on semi moist and guzzle the lot within 10 minutes.

Taz, I think I have just been very lucky with them using my boxes straight away, All 3 of my boxes are in use with the 4th one due for delivery next week. I didn't ever put food in the box, I thought they wouldn't sleep where food knowing it will attract other hogs etc.
I just let them find it natural, I think what works for me is nobody in my road will be feeding them or having boxes out.

Hey all, I have been away a few days so not been around, the spikes semi moist came and they love it, all gone by morning! Paul with regards to hogs using boxes, I wonder if the area has anything to do with it, as where I live it is semi rural, there is a school field at the rear of us with some wild untouched areas, also hedges trees etc, they may prefer natural if available over man made. However the box is getting looked at as I put a twig over the entrance to see if anything has gone in. Quite a few times it has been knocked over. Fingers crossed they ill try it.

It could be Karen, The back of ares is waste land with loads of trees and bushes. However the hedgehogs are in the front in mine, Plenty of trees in road and bushes but not to the level of over the backs. Glad your hogs like the semi moist!
Here's a little video of one of our hogs getting itself cosy before settling down for the night.

So excited I have just been out to clean the hog dish and top up their water, I had a quick check in the hog house, no body in there, but someone has had a sleep in there at some point, all the straw was flattened down in a cute round shape. Also the little one that comes each night appeared at 9.45pm, which is earlier than usual, was it cause he just woke up and came straight to feed, his first port of call so to speak. But for some reason he has slept elsewhere today hope he comes back.

That is brilliant Karen, He could be using it for "napping" at the moment we have one who does this in ours, He / She normally comes around 9pm and will nap in the hog box between feeding its there all night and sometimes sleeps up to a hour in the box at a time goes out gets food and water comes back in but by morning its gone. At the moment I only have 1 that uses the box fully and sleeps in it all day, My other 2 are "nappers" I did have the little hoglet sleep over the other day though so he / she must of come late for food and sunrise was happening so it slept. Your box being used for resting is only a good sign that is how all mine started

Thanks Paul, i have had the camera inside the feeding station out of interest, to see them from another perspective. I have had the same two come every night for the past 10 days or so. They make several visits through the night to feed and drink, the small one comes much more though and spends longer. Last night they were both in there together, the size difference is remarkable I may put the camera inside the hog house to see if I can catch the little napper! I have just set up the camera in the hog house!
